My Fiance and I are considering a destination wedding in Punta Cana. We have visited there and it is one of our favorite vacation spots. We want a small, intimate wedding with under 50 guest. We are looking to Dreams Resort, in May of 2015. Any feddback, or information about weather, travel, that time of year, as well as experience with destination weddings would be much appreciated.

@cschmidt1214: My DH & I got engaged in May 2011 while were on vacation at Dreams Palm Beach Punta Cana. We saw several weddings there during our 10 day stay (about 6) and they were all gorgeous with ceremonies on the beach. The weather was amazing the full 10 days we were there and we never had any rain. I highly suggest checking out bestdestinationwedding.com & reading their forums. Lots of DW brides have reviews with pictures. I also had a DW (but in St. Thomas USVI) and that website was SUPER helpful in planning & checking out the areas. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions regarding the resort. I wasn’t sure if you were thinking of having your DW at Dreams Palm Beach or Dreams Punta Cana (as there are 2 in the area).

I still have family that lives there. I’ll have to give them a call. I’m posting so I can find this thread later.

I’m getting married in Punt Cana in January. Check out the Jellyfish restaurant. They have one wedding a day so it doesn’t feel like a wedding factory. Plus, their wedding coordinator takes care if everything for you – decorations, programs, menus, place cards, etc. I can’t even begin to express how stress-free this process has been for me.

@Carrington: Will do! How does the price of the Jellyfish compare to that of hosting a wedding at the resort? Which resort are you staying at?

I’m staying at the Majestic Elegance. Comparing prices… They are about the same. The resort charges you for everything individually. The Jellyfish has a flat rate of $1500 that includes the wedding on the beach, reception site, all decorations for ceremony and reception in your wedding colors, chair covers/bows, everything. You just have to add cost for food, drinks, dj/band, photographer, flowers, other nice touches like cigar rollers and fire dancers.
I went with the Jellyfish because I didn’t want to lug decorations, programs, signs, and other stuff on the plane. Also, their wedding planner is amazing! If you google their website, look at the Gallery tab. You can see examples of past weddings.
We’re having our rehearsal dinner at our resort and doing a welcome reception/beach party.

i think i sent you a long message with info earlier, but my fiance and i are getting married at the jellyfish restaurant as well. our wedding is march 1 so just a few months to go. we and all the guests are staying at the melia (about 5 minutes from the jellyfish) and are having the welcome dinner at the resort the night before the wedding. the jellyfish is the best decision we ever made. they only do 1 wedding a day so the place is completely yours and every wedding is unique and created just for you and your fiance. mayte, the coordinator, is incredible and i cant wait to see what she creates out of all the inspiration pix i sent her. feel free to message me if you have any questions!

cschmidt1214: The weddings down there are beutiful. Be careful with Punta Cana, some venues require for you to pay a day pass for the guests that are not staying there even though you’re paying for the food. I have an amazing photographer but the hotel might charge you more for bringing your own photographer. Read the fine print, ask as much questions as possible. My photographer has done many weddings in Punta Cana, some of the hotels tend to have hidden fees.
