We are going to the Majestic Colonial in Punta Cana because it looked so lovely and sounded so lovely when Mrs. Sea Breeze blogged about it! :)
We are going to stay in Punta Cana too! We went with the Dreams Resorts, they were a great price and they look beautiful as well. I checked out Trip Advisor and the reviews are mostly favorable. There are some really bad ones but you cant please everyone. We cant wait to go, my FI checks the weather there daily on his phone, considering its 32 degrees where I live today.
We stayed at the Excellence Punta Cana and thought it was great! I believe it was slightly more expensive than the Majestic Colonial, but according to Trip Advisor it had (at the time at least) a slightly better food rating as well. We just happened to be comparing the two resorts as friends had recently stayed at the Majestic Colonial and really enjoyed it - but thought that the food was just 'ok'. So we booked at Excellence - and had some really great meals...and some really 'not so great' meals. So...just like any other meal you have in life - it depends on the restaurant and what you order!
I think you'd enjoy either resort!

I researched the heck out of Punta Cana when I thought we were going last fall (he decided he rather buy something pretty and sparkly to propose with. I'm ok with that.). So, we're planning to do Punta Cana with maybe a side trip to Santo Domingo for our HM. We're leaning toward the Punta Cana Princess because it's a smaller, adults only resort. Not that we don't like kids, but we just don't want them running around and being kids while we're trying to enjoy our honeymoon.
We're meeting with our travel agent tomorrow--I'm excited!!!!!
I've been to Puerto Plata, DR 5 times! We always stay at Playa Naco! It's wonderful!!
All I have to say is great choice!! But I guess my opinion is no helpful considering I was born in DR, raised in DR and actually living in DR

My fiance and I stayed at the Majestic Colonial during April '08. We had a good time but the food really left a lot to desire. The breakfast buffet outside by the beach was quite bad actually. The rooms were nice and spacious. The bathrooms are connected to the room only by a glass door so if you are squeamish about bathroom noises it might be an issue haha. The Majestic Elegance was still under construction but looked like it was going to be amazing. But other than the food, the Colonial is a gorgeous place and I even got to hold a little monkey! Also, one of my best friends stayed at the Excellence Punta Cana with her husband and they both raved about that resort. In the end, I think, all of the resorts are very smiliar and you'll love the DR!
I have been to Punta Cana twice. The beaches are simply gorgeous. I went in March 2005 the first time and stayed at the Caribe Club Princess. It was nice, all-inclusive resort. We stayed for a week. They had a buffett and several ala-carte restaurants. Make sure your husband brings long pants because all ala-carte restaurants require proper attire.
My second trip was in September 2007 with my now fiance. We stayed for 5 days and 6 nights at the Iberostar Bavaro. It was very nice and I would stay there again. Service was great. Food was pretty decent, too. Also, don't be surprised with the amount of nudity you see on the beach......mainly topless women. There are a lot of Europeans that vacation in DR.
Check out tripadvisor.com for reviews of hotels and resorts. This is my favorite website when planning any sort of traveling.
We stayed at Excellence in Puerto Morelos last August- that's where my fiance popped the question! We met other guests who had been to Excellence in Punta Cana and had absolutely raved about it. I would definitely look into Excellence. For the record, I am not someone who usually goes the all-inclusive route but Excellence will make you a believer.
Thanks Bee's! We booked at the Majestic Elegance! And are very excited. I would have looked into the Excellence but we went through Apple Vacations and they didn't have that hotel for packages. Can't wait to go! *June 22!*

We will be staying at the Majestic Elegance for our honeymoon. I have been to the Majestic Colonial twice and absolutely loved it both times. Punta Cana is just so gorgeous!

My fiance and I stayed at the Grand Palladium Resort and Casino in Punta Cana in July 2008. It was AMAZING there!! I would go back in a heartbeat. The weather was incredible. The water is like bath water. The sand is white and soft and they keep the beaches very clean. The staff is also wonderful. They are so friendly. They do speak very little english but they do their best to accomodate. The food was also great. They have all kinds of different types of food at the buffet every night and there are also 5 different restaurants to choose from that offer different types of food. Also, the drinks are great too, and they have bars located all over the resort. The best ones are the bars on the beach :) The rooms are also very nice and the housekeepers clean them every day for you. I honestly have no complaints about this resort. It was wonderful.

Punta Cana is AMAZING no matter where you go. I was seriously so, so impressed with the Majestic Colonial too, as were ALL of our guests and they've all traveled a lot. We took a tour of the Majestic Elegance during our honeymoon and ate there too and it is so gorgeous.
I'm so jealous of all of you... I wanna go back!

I can't believe I missed this post as well! We honeymooned in Punta Cana in June of 08 (the 22-30) and it was increadible! The Majestic looks like it will be beautiful! We actually stayed at the Excellence and enjoyed every second of it! Since you already booked your resort, I won't rant and rave about ours. But I will say that if you are looking for an adventurous excursion to do, you MUST do the zipline tour! I will post pics so you can see how breathtaking the actual country is (outside of the resort areas). Mind you, it is a third world country, but the actual land itself is stunning! Beware of rain on your trip. It is monsoon season there, so you may run into a thunderstorm or two. But it won't completely ruin your trip. The sun will be out again in no time! ENJOY EVERY SECOND!

Somebody I know stayed at the Princess Barcelona (I think..."princess" was definitely in the name) and it was quite affordable! I think when I priced them they were about 2K or 2500.
My FI and I are staying at the Catalonia Royal Bavaro in Punta Cana! :D

For those of you that have already been, did you change over your currency once you got there or did you find that american money was accepted? We are staying at an all inclusive but I want to be sure that I can tip people and pay for those extras that our resort offers.

I havent been yet (going the end of June), but my FI's family went there before and were able to tip with US dollars and that they preferred that more.
My FI and I went to the Bahia Principe resort in Punta Cana back in November where he prosed to me on the beach at night! It was beautiful! I loved the food, mind you I am not picky.
People in general, wherever you go are never happy. We both spoke to people on the resort and in the airports and they always had something to complain about. We had a wonderful experience. The scenery was gorgeous, the employees were really nice, and the service was great.
Yay! I missed this post the first time around, too. We are going for two weeks and staying at the Majestic Elegance, in October. I can't wait! There are several other knotties from my area who are going in June, so I will get a first-hand report. :-) I am more excited for the HM than for the wedding. 
FI and I vacationed in Punta Cana in August of 2007...before I officially acknowledged him as my boyfriend! LOL. We stayed at Occidental Grand...but I think the hotels there change names every few years or so for some reason. The hotel was so-so. But our beach was BY FAR the best on the island. We walked up and down in both directions and ours was the cleanest, largest, and best water. No matter where you go, you'll enjoy it. We were there during a hurricane & had a blast!
TIP #1: when you head down (or up) the beach to the little fishing village, the vendors will mob you. if you walk in the edge of the water, they'll leave you alone--they don't want to mess up their fancy shoes!
TIP #2: definitely try the mamajuana. it's a drink (and it's legal) made from a native root, mixed with sugar cane, rum, and wine. it's delicious. and it's an aphrodisiace...not that you'll need it on your honeymoon!!
Yay for the other Majestic honeymooners! I too am probably more excited for the HM then wedding lol. It'll be nice to getaway with your husband after all this planning!
Anymore pictures/ experiences/ tips on Punta Cana?
American money is accepted there (at least it was at the Grand Palladium) it makes for an easy trip. No currency exchange needed.

Mr. June & I have been extensively researching honeymoons for MONTHS. Trying to find a non-stop flight to the carribbean, all inclusive resort....in our budget (3k). We have been to Cancun many times so we crossed that out. We looked into Jamaica for awhile but too many people said they had been hassled to buy drugs, even on the beach. So we crossed that off. Bahamas is expensive!! Not many choices in all inclusives. So we marked that off. At this point we had nearly given up. Then we researched Punta Cana! It looks SO beautiful there, the resorts are very affordable for all inclusives, and there will soon be a non stop flight to there (I called the airline). So now we are just waiting to book it!! We want to stay at the Majestic Colonial or Majestic Elegance resort.
Anybody else go to Punta Cana? Experience? Resort?
