Have you thought about selling your crafts on Etsy? I sell on etsy, and then have a free blog site elsewhere (that I never have time to use) plus a free twitter account to tweet out my crafts & sales.
I just bought a domain for our wedding site on Netfirms, I used a coupon code that I found on retailmenot.com and got 30% off, so my domain name came to $7.99. This was for netfirms.ca, you would purchase from netfirms.com if you chose them.
You'd need a hosting package with your domain name, but you should be able to find a coupon code to save some money & purchase it all a whole package. If your going to sell things on your own domain, you need to look into merchant software & what you need to safely take customers payments.
Anyone used "network solutions" for a web domain purchaser.. they are as low as 5.99 a month.
heysillybabe, I appreciate your comment. What is a hosting package? What does that do? Is it something that is required to go public with the site?
I'd go with godaddy.com they are the most trusted web domain company out there. we bought ours for a year for like 13 bucks.
A hosting package is something that you get through the company so they will basically put your website online. We didnt get one because FI is a techy and we host the website from his computer. You need a static IP address from your internet provider to do this from home. It is much easier to go with the host package though =) I think it's like 5.99 or something a month through go daddy.
We bought our wedding website from bluehost. We were up and running in about 15 minutes. Easy and cheap ($82 / year).
Thank you M.Ruder & rachelss
rachelss, does the 82 a year include the site & the hosting fee?
M.Ruder, the 13 dollars for the site, is that annually?
Also, what if I wanted to set up a paypal account so that I might try to sell some of the things that I make, or if I start a renal company & want to allow people to work thru that site, how might I go about that?
You bees are great by the way!

Hey there bees. Does anyone know how to go about purchasing a web domain name? My hubby and I are thinking of starting a blog/website where we write posts and sell crafts that we make, but I don't have the first clue about how to go about getting our website.
Can you just buy it from another website? What are the best sites to buy from?
Anyone have any prior knowledge?
