I’m having some color quandries…
First, let me set the mood: wedding in a new barn, twinkly lights and branches. Fall. I’ve envisioned plum/eggplant/deep purple and grey as my wedding colors. Was thinking of doing ivory linens, white chairs, etc. Then centerpieces would be branches with some plum and grey flowers.
The questions are:
- Do you think white wooden folding chairs look too summery with this palette? (they are $3.50 each, whereas covering a chair is double that)
- Is the purple and grey going to look weird/compete against the fall foliage? I’m thinking maybe the grey needs to be more charcoal for the season, where I was originally thinking lighter grey. 🙂 I can’t find any photos of purple and grey against fall foliage (orange, greens, yellows, browns. Probably mostly yellows and browns though)
- Really stuck on the flowers. The florist said dark purple flowers look black in photos. Very enamored of fabric flowers, but most of these seem to be in pale colors.
- Any photo reference for any of the above would be sooooo appreciated. Really having trouble finding these.

I think light grey would be fine. I’ve seen color palettes of light grey and orange for the fall. I dont see why you couldnt do a light grey with the purple. I think it would look fabulous and something out of the norm of most fall color palettes!
EDIT: here is the color palette I saw

I think purple and gray sounds lovely. I’m pretty sure no one is going to say, oh these centerpieces don’t match with the leaves on the trees. And also, go for the cheaper chair. No one will notice or for that matter care. Those chair covers, to me, only look good in that one pic the photog takes before everyone starts coming in.
I found this inspiration board, sorry it’s huge!

you girls are the best, thank you! 🙂
i guess i was more worried will the trees as background for all the photos look weird with the purple dresses…hoping that will be ok cuz they’re all really jewel tones. And grey’s a neutral…unless we did purple and brown. hmmm. i better decide soon!
maybe the flowers could be purples and greys…greys for the girls with the purple dresses, purple and grey for mine? hmmmm.
thanks for the photos! i’m pinning them to my pinterest boards!!! bees are the best! 🙂

Honestly, you can’t go wrong with fall foilage and purple. The foilage will provide a beautiful pop of color in the background while the gray and purple will bing in a refined, classic vibe. Go with white chairs; they will be a nice contrast.
Also, for flowers, I would keep it simple and stick to shades of white maybe with a few light-medium purple flowers thrown in for some dimension. Maybe wrap the stems in coordinating gray or purple ribbon. I think your color scheme is lovely!

I love the idea of purple and gray. I only steered clear of purple because my Fiance doens’t like it, otherwise I would have had a purple and gray wedding as well. Good luck! It will be beautiful!

I think it sounds FABULOUS! My wedding is in October and we too are using eggplant/amethyst and charcoal/gunmetal grey.

Purple and grey are my colors and we are getting married in October :). We started out shooting for charcoal but it has kind of modified itelf into more of a charcoal/grey hybrid. I love the color combo and say go for it!

We’re getting married in the fall as well and our colors are eggplant/plum purple and gunmetal grey with accents of silver, green, ivory and possibly black. Colors started out as just purple, grey, and ivory but soon blossomed into more.
