Dahlias come in many different petal shapes and almost any color.  Blooms can be up to 8 inches in diameter!  I used them in my bouquet.

+1 on the dahlias. Also calla lillies come in deep purple. Gerbera are vibrant red. You might even be able to dye them.

Birds of paradise (I think that’s what they’re called?) are very unique and striking.

Don’t rule out carnations either.

You might also think about orchids, ranunculus, and amaryllis. But I’ve only seen pictures, so I’m not sure if the true shades are as dark as you want.

your colors are the same as my sis in law’s.  Her bridesmaids were in purple and they carried red gerber daisies.  My girls are carrying red peonies, cabbage roses, and garden roses.  I wouldn’t recommend red peonies for a September wedding though.  I love the dahlias.  Other red flowers include: poppies, tulips, ginger, anthuriums, heliconia…
