FoolsintheRain:  purple shampoo is essential when you lighten or bleach your hair, it keeps the color from turning brassy or orange hued. It is pricier but very worth it, I shell out for it every time I am keeping up with blonde.

I do!! Yes it totally works! I’ve used everything from Paul Mitchell Forever Blonde, to AG Silver, to Shimmer Lights (Sally Beauty Supply). I 100% recommend shimmer lights! It’s awesome!! I tone about once a week with it (used it this morning actually) and it really reduces the brassiness in my hair and gives me more of an ash blonde instead of a brassy golden blonde.

Shimmer lights is definitely cheaper than $50. I buy the big bottles, I think it’s around $30 for both? Definitely worth a try.

Also, if you feel adventurous….

Sometimes I make my own toner by using white conditioner (cheap stuff like Tresemme) and I add just a few drops of Pravana Violet and Pravana Silver. I mix it in a color mixing bowl, apply it to my blonde and let it sit about 10-20 minutes. There are some youtube videos showing this technique… but be careful, you could end up with lilac hair (which I did on purpose once, and it turned out sooooo perfect and beautiful)!

FoolsintheRain:  just saw this! This should be my specialist subject haha! I have blonde hair naturally but I have it highlighted so it’s about two shades lighter. Keeping it nice and icy like white whipped ice cream or pearl blonde is a daily commitment. The best product I’ve found over the years is Provoke Touch of Silver. Inexpensive purple shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, twice a week shampoo, dry shampoo and hairspray. It’s a great range aimed at people with white, silver or dyed blonde hair. I use the daily shampoo and conditioner and have done for years. Keeps my blonde bright and never ever have any brassy tones. It is also very good at moisturising my hair. I have fine hair and highlights don’t help and dry it Out. The Provoke stuff keeps it moisturised, soft, tangle free and bright.

FoolsintheRain:  won’t affect your low lights 🙂 my lower layers are darker and they look great with a lot of use of the provoke purple shampoo as are my highlights they’re multi tonal 🙂

FoolsintheRain:  I have platinum blonde hair and I use purple shampoo and conditioner occassionally. I always use it right after bleaching my roots to make it less yellow, and then maybe once every couple weeks after that just to maintain the cool tone. It does make a difference, especially if you leave it on your hair for a while (but not too long or your hair WILL turn purple). I’ve never heard of a purple shampoo costing $50 though! I use Shiny Silver Ultra from Sally’s and I think it costs just a little more than regular shampoo.

MrsSpagan:  Where can you find those? I’d like to try them if you say they’re moisturizing.

FoolsintheRain:  That probably explains the price difference 🙂 I swear by Shimmer Lights – and it will last you FOREVER. Don’t use it everyday or it will make you look dull/grey, but once or twice a week works wonders 🙂

FoolsintheRain:  Matrix So Silver is THE BEST purple shampoo! I don’t even need to use purple conditioner with it.

CarolinaCola:  you can buy them from amazon or ebay if you’re abroad, in the uk you can get them from boots of superdrug only £2 a bottle. Usually only £1 a bottle on amazon! It used to be made by schwarzkopf but got bought over, the formulas the same though – perfect stuff!

FoolsintheRain:  Pureology Perfect for Platinum is pricey but so worth it ( its purple shampoo).

What I do now to help cut down on cost is just buy purple deepl conditioner and for blonde shampoo/regular conditioner

I condition with the purple conditioner for 3-5 mins 2X a week and that works pretty well for me

Currently using Redken as I am trying to find a cheaper alternative to Pureology, seems to be doing a good job so far!
