I've been dying to cut my hair for MONTHS. I grew it out for the wedding and it drives me insane because it is too thin to stay looking nice when I have it down for any length of time. In fact, the last photo I have of me with my hair down (that isn't a wedding photo) was actually from last October, and my hair is longer now by about 6 mo:

I am pretty sure I'm going to go back to the haircut I had when we got engaged, which I loved (please excuse the lack of makeup here!):

The question I have is about color. My hair color currently is pretty similar to the first picture. A basic dark brown. I could also do my go-to-slightly-different hair color which is just a redish brown (the color in the pic with the shorter hair).

I've been really wanting to do something DIFFERENT though and my hair stylist thinks I have the coloring to pull of a true red. I'm thinking Kate Walsh (for color only):

But I'm a tiny bit afraid I'm going to end up looking like this (TOO ORANGE):

My mom thinks I should go light brown/blondish... which I haven't done in ages (this is a hs senior pic haha).

I'm just afraid I'm too fair for that and it'll wash me out.

Or I could truly relive hs and go pink...PWC and hair dye? Lots of pics. : wedding Scan 10

jk! (i dont know why i look so surprised here either. and excuse my pasty legs. there is a reason i don't wear short skirts anymore).

Anyways.... sorry for the million pictures.... but what do ppl think? I need an objective opinion on what color I should do next. Thanks!!

I personally looove how you look in the 2nd pic, with the shorter hair cut and that auburn-y red/brown. I think you could also pull off a  true red, but I would just be cautious about it being too brassy. I also like you with the darker red/brown hair because I think it's a  nice contrast to your eyes!

I say you can pull of the Kate Walsh...it's PWC and summer is coming - do something different than the unexpected :)

You can always go back to your engagement hair if you don't like a brand new 'do. I say now is the time to experiment!

@hilsy85: thanks! I kind of agree about the dark hair with blue eyes thing... thats why I have kept it dark for so long!

    @mikaylav3: thanks!

@pink.sequins: yea... I am feeling sad that Kate Welsh is losing in the poll which tells me I do kind of REALLY want to do it. And its just hair dye... red washes out so fast that I need to go in every 8 weeks anyways so at most it'd be 2 months of carrot-top if its a tragedy lol.

I definitely think you can pull of the Kate Walsh color.  Try it! Worst that can happen is it doesn't work, and color can always be fixed.  Trust me, I tried coloring my dark hair platinum blonde....with a kit....from the Dollar store.  6 hours and $297 later, I looked like myself again!

Coming from a true redhead, I think you could pull off a true red if you really want it, but I think I still like the darker red on you.I like the way it brings out your eyes.

Plus you would probably have to color your eyebrows if you went a true red so it matches better. Kate Walsh's are decently lighter (fyi- she's not a REAL redhead! she actually colors her hair lol) but most redheads you see have fairly light eyebrows, so I think it makes a huge difference. My eyebrows are a slighter lighter red than my hair, but my mother's are white blond.

Coloring your eyebrows isn't a huge deal, but it's something to consider because it is an extra step so just wanted to mention it!

@Lindsay12.31.2010: lol! Sounds like something I"d do.

@FutureMrsSitler: hmmm i didn't consider the eyebrows thing. How does one dye their eyebrows? I wonder if my stylist would do it for me when she did my hair lol. But I feel like eyebrows prob wouldn't last 8 weeks....

I have no real commitment to any hair color the older I get, but I have to say (as someone who has been blonde for most of my life) I LOVED my hair when it was red. Mine was a deeper red than the KW picture but I also have to say that it had to be retouched at about 3 weeks. It never lasted as long or looked as good as other colors, so it's something to consider. When I tried a brighter, lighter red, it started to look pink in a few weeks, so that went immediately. Luckily my daughter's a stylist so could do it for me as needed, but if you'll be paying for it, it may end up costing more than you're willing to spend.

I agree with everyone on the shorter cut and reddish brown. Very flattering!
