Hey everyone!
We've arranged to have Jillian Michaels answer some of your fitness / weight loss questions! Please post here and we'll do our best to get her to anwer as many as possible during an interview we are doing with her next week.
Yay!!!!
Best,
-Lori
Holy cow, that's awesome! I'm so excited that I can't even think of a question right at this moment!! I have a major girl crush on Jillian!! Eeeep!! :)
should you do the 30 day shred in 30 consecutive days or take days off?
(this is awesome btw .. love jillian!
)
I want to know if you should do the 30 day shred in 30 consecutive days also. I have heard that you should rest muscle groups a day inbetween.
Um, I don't have any questions, but that's freaking awesome! Can't wait to read it!
What are the best foods to eat before and after a workout?
wow...is this an interview for weddingbee? How did you get an interview with her?
Can you do the 30 Day Shred month after month? How long should you rest in between cycles?
Love Jillian! She rocks!
what is your worst habit or a habit you want to stop?
I wanna know how I can get one workout with her yelling at me as I work out ha ha..My bf has a crush on her too.
I do the 30 Day Shred every other day to give my muscles a breather. I try to do some yoga and/or cardio but I feel like I might be doing too much or too little. What's the best way, in terms of scheduling, to do the Shred??
PS I looooove Jillian!!
Hi there,
My wedding is decebmer 18th so not that far away, for the past month I have been busting my butt with a personal trainer and cardio on the days I dont see her, and doing the medifast diet and sticking to it pretty well and drinking tons of water. The first two weeks I lost like 7lbs but since then my weight loss has completely stopped! There has to be something Im doing wrong, any advice???
This is SO great!
Here's my question and some stats:
I'm 5'7", 186, and 42% body fat, with a square shape (broad hips, undefined waist, and skinny lower legs).
Ideally, I'd like to drop 40 pounds before my wedding date (in 11 months).
Is a 1200 calorie intake appropriate? (My best weight loss ratio is 60% carbs / 25% protein / 15% fat), and - what combination of exercise would be ideal and what kind of calorie burn should I shoot for each day? ie: how many minutes cardio, how many minutes strength training, a day/week should my goal be?
I love the Shred - but it kills my knee joints after several days (even with good squat form!) so the longest I've done it is 10 days up through level 2. I definitely saw some results. Any tips for knee pain?
As someone who races mountain bikes about nine months out of the year, I have a pretty decent training schedule during the season. As I'm approaching off-season training, I'd like to incorporate a little fun with doing 30 Day Shred. My concern/question is this: is 30 Day Shred something I can do in ADDITION to my planned "on the bike" workouts? Off season training consists of miles and more miles on the bike at low intensity. Should I be off the bike for the whole month in order to get full advantage of the program?
I guess this question could be for a lot of different girls - training for a marathon, triathlon, involved in soccer leagues, etc.
How do you incorporate your program if you already have daily/weekly mandatory workouts/games?
What is Jillian's favorite calorie splurge/dessert/treat?
haha everyone has one...
That's so awesome!!!
I guess my question is similar to those above, but a) is the 30 Day Shred meant to be done every day for 30 days, and b) is it meant to be a supplement to other workouts or meant to be used as the primary workout?
what is the best way to train for a competitive run (i.e. a 5k, 10k, 1/2 marathon, marathon, etc)?
i know there are sooo many different programs out there, but is there one in particular that jillian recommends? or perhaps a training program of her own?
p.s. i, like many others, have a major girl crush on jillian, haha!
What's the best way to mix the 30 day shred in with an existing workout / cardio routine. I try to do the shred on days when I don't have the time to do a longer workout. I'm just wondering what's the most effective. Also, is it best to switch around between levels 1, 2, and 3, or should you just stick with level 3 once you get to that point. I've been switching around so that I don't get too bored...
Here's my question for Jillian: I got the Burn Fat Boost Metabolism dvd, but I can barely make it through one circuit! Am I starting with the wrong dvd, or does Jillian have any endurance suggestions to make getting started with it easier?
Ooh, me, me! I love the 30 Day Shred, but I find that it's hard on my knees. I wear knee braces when I do it and I modify some of the movements, and I always make sure that my knee doesn't go over my toe when in the lunge position. Is there anything else I can do to protect my knees? I love the 30 Day Shred--it's the only workout I've ever done that has shown results so quickly.
WOW!!!! I am so excited!!! :)
My major question is what she would recommend in terms of her detox/cleanse program and her calorie/fat burner supplements. Should you use both supplements at the same time?
Ack! I have one!! Please ask Jillian how often she works out per week, per day, minutes, hours, etc. Also, what is a typical day of meals for her?
Jillian I started your 30day shred dvd and then the next 3 days I was limping and couldn't walk. So I didn't go back to the dvd because I didn't want to injure myself further. I want to start the dvd again someday, what should I do if my legs get that bad again? Was I correct in taking a few days off? Or should I have pushed through it and possibly injured myself?
I'm really thinking about getting a body bugg. Is it a Heart Rate Monitor, along with everything else if offers?
What keeps her motivated?!?
Not even a wedding is that motivating to me haha.
I second the detox question.
Meals: I feel like I make wonderful choices for dinner as I have the time to do so. I feel a little more unsure about my breakfast and lunch choices. What is a great breakfast that is quick to prepare? What do you recommend for lunch? (soup, sandwich, salad?)
if one wants to burn more calories, would she recommend doing both level 1 & level 2 back-to-back? IE was the video intended to be a sort of mix-n-match like that?
I'd really like to get a caloric burn similar to running 10 miles (which I do pretty often), but in my living room.
What is the best way to stay motivated for those tough days when you just want to have and ice cream sundae and sit on the couch?
I try to work out 5-6 days a week, and am incorporating both interval workouts and weight lifting. I do a half hour of non-interval cardio, and then a half hour of either intervals or weight lifting. On weeks when I can only make it to the gym 5 times, is it better to sacrifice intervals or weight training? And is this too much/not enough? I'm 5'1", 138#, with a muscular, large-boned build, and I'd like to be at 120# in 10 months, which is a fairly low (but achievable) weight for my frame.
Wow, I just have to say how awesome this is. Thanks so much, Lorienne for arranging something so great!
My question for Jillian is "how many hours a day do the Biggest Loser contestants work out? How many calories a day do they eat/burn on average?"
How cool! I wish i had a good question that wasn't selfish. I think only I would be interested in the question I have!
How do you go from being "in good shape, healthy body fat percentage, eating healthy (23% body fat, 1500 calories a day, etc)" to being SUPER FAB.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, What exercises take you into the next level (or diet tips) if you're already doing lots of great stuff and you're already "in shape"? How do you step it up a notch without devoting too much time to it? It's not really a plateau, is it?
I feel like I'm good, but I wanna be great =]
And i want her abs =]
I have a bodybugg and love it. It is not a heart monitor though (unless they've come out with a more recent version that has one)
OOOO this is so exciting :)
I think in honor of this I am going to *finally* go buy the dvd today and start doing it before we get to see her answers!!!
@mimosa I second that! I want a detailed breakdown (and the honest one!!)
All these questions are great! I, like Laylabelle, want to know what her workouts consist of. And like ejs, how do you get super in shape?
For anyone interested, Jillian used to do a radio show and you can listen to the old broadcasts online at http://www.kfi640.com/pages/jillian.html
She answers caller questions and discusses lots of fitness and diet topics.
