Wedding is just about 2 weeks away (ahh!) and we are trying to finalize our dessert numbers.
We are having a small cutting cake for us, cupcakes and a s’mores bar.
I was confident in the number of cupcakes we ordered, but after reading a thread about how many cupcakes one may eat, I got a little nervous. We had planned on having 11 flavors of cupcakes, including a mixture of jumbo (think Costco muffin sized) and mini (about 2 bites each). A few people in the thread mentioned that they would want to try every flavor, even if that meant not finishing much of each cupcake. We hadn’t intended on every guest taking anywhere close to 9 cupcakes each!
Granted, these cupcakes are the best cupcakes in the world, but after appetizers and a 3 course meal, I can’t imagine that much of an appetite.
Our plan was to order enough for everyone to have 1 large cupcake and 1 small cupcake, with a little overflow (knowing that some people will eat more, and some will eat less). What would you say is a good number?
Also, how many s’mores should we have enough supplies for?
Just to share the deliciousness, these are the flavors:
Peanut Butter & Jelly

Bump. Please help me out ladies! Especially in regards to the s’mores, I have no clue how many to account for.

@somerrae: I think on average people will have 1 jumbo (no more than that), 2 minis and 2 smores. Some people may skip the jumbo altogether, opting for just a sampling of the minis. I can’t see people on average having more than 2 smores?

Wow, this is tough… I also have the self proclaimed worlds biggest sweet tooth and I LOVE cupcakes. If I was confronted with those many flavor choices, my head might explode.
With that many options, I wouldn’t automatically assume that you only wanted each guest to take just one. I would assume that it is OK to try multiple flavors (this is just me, and maybe I’m just rude…). What I would probably do? Find my date or a friend or two that is also there and sit down and share several… and then I’d probably go back and take a whole one of my favorite! I wouldn’t waste a cupcake just to try a different flavor. That’s just blashphemy.
You mentioned that you weren’t sure how hungry people would be after all the apps and 3 course meal, but when is dessert coming out? Immediately after dinner? An hour or so later? Will it stay out throughout the course of the rest of the night for people to pick at? Especially if I’ve been drinking and dancing, I’ll be working up an appetite!
If it were JUST me, I’d probably eat at least THREE throughout the course of the night if they are hanging out on a dessert table. If I was sharing with one or more people, I would increase that number… but then it would average to about 2.5 cupcakes per person I was sharing with.
EDIT: Realizing now that they are either jumbo or MINI – I would probably eat more than 3 mini ones all by myself, and if I was sharing with other guests, several jumbo…
As for s’mores, maybe one or two since I’m less inclined to have to work for my food 😉
Also remember, not everyone has as huge of a sweet tooth as I do 😉

I would probably not eat a jumbo cupcake. I would hoard tons of little ones though to be honest. I could and would probably eat 5

So, having shown your flavour list to my SO and mom, they both agreed they would probably want to try 3 flavours each, at least. However, we also agreed if they we would shar if they were jumbo. not as many people are that considerate, so we chose 3+ minis. Also, as far as the s’mores, I know I probably couldn’t do more than 2, so I chose 2.

@somerrae: I’m curious as to where you got the cupcakes. I’m in San Diego as well and would love to try them!

@rand04: Babycakes in Hillcrest. By far, the best cupcakes I have ever eaten (and Mr. & I try just about every bakery we see).
Tania, their wedding sales, is awesome, though I wasn’t a fan of the gentleman working the morning of our wedding. He made us seem like we were inconveniencing him.
Everyone RAVED about the cupcakes all night though. I wouldn’t have gone with anyone else.

@somerrae: I can tell you from pot lucks at work, people can and will eat like 9 mini cupcakes and hoard some more.
I make some pretty delish cupcakes, but I think the main contributing factor is that they’re mini (of course).
It’s like people can’t control themselves with mini ones. Sort of like putting a bag of bite size chocolates out in front of some kids.

as much as i love cupcakes, with allll the flavors i would probably gravitated toward 2 mini cupcakes so i can try 2 flavors and 1 smores..
