Ok – this might be confusing so I’ll try not to ramble.
The shower will be held in my homestate so all items are getting shipped there. I live 600 miles away. No way am I able to fly back with all of our goodies from the shower.
Say I get two of the same item and want to return one while I’m still visiting in my homestate. Will Bed, Bath & Beyond accept the return and give me a BB&B gift card so I can just buy something at another time? Or do I have to exchange a gift for an item right on the spot?

BB&B actually does registry returns for cash. Even better than a gift card 🙂
But in no case will you have to do an exchange then and there.

@skippydarling: If you have a gift reciept and the item is on a registry they will give you an in-store only credit meaning a special piece of paper. This is NOT to be confused with a gift card. The paper only allows for in-store purchases where as a gift card can be used in store or online. If you lose the piece of paper you are out of luck.
We had our wedding over a year ago and BB&B is still awesome about returns. They were by far the easiest to work with.
BB&B will do returns for cash or refund on your debit/cred card BUT there are certain exceptions and a manager’s approval is required. In other words definitely do not count on this to be the case. We returned several thousands of dollars worth of items and were only allowed to credit to our card a little over a hundred dollars total and most of that was due to my patience and the manager trying to make things right.

I work at BBB and you will recieve a store credit for a registry return. It is on a piece of paper, but if you lose it they can look it up for you as they put your info into the computer system, so no worries. Also, if you wanted to order something only available online, then go into your nearest store, have an associate order it for you (ships for free since it is off your registry) and you can use your store credit at the register. 🙂
