I’m going to make a Cool Whip based Butterfinger dessert today for a football party tonight. Would you Bee’s suggest freezing it again after it has been made in order to keep the whip from melting too much or do you think it would be OK in the fridge?
I Googled that exact questions– with the only thing I could find being ” you can buy Cool Whip in the freezer section”. Not much help!

Each recipe is different. Some are frozen, some not. What do the instructions say?

@Mrs_Amanda: LSU Auburn game?
If it was really melting I might stick it in the freezer for a few min, but I would probably keep it in the fridge. I am not a good judge on this tho bc I have never made a dessert like that.

I’ve made cool whip desserts before, and kept them in the fridge. They were not supposed to be frozen desserts though. Your recipe may be different.

The recipe doesn’t realllly say except ” keep cool”.
Its layered Graham Crackers, Cool Whip, caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, Butterfingers( crushed) for 3-4 layers or until your pan is full.
@OtterHalf: Yes! Huge LSU fans here! Well, I am… My husband married into it haha.

I’d throw it in the fridge. If you freeze it, it will become more like an ice-cream consistancy.

yep i would do just the fridge for that.

I wish I could make cool whip desserts but that stuff is so nasty that I simply can not allow myself to do so. I need to find a way to make real whipped cream more “durable”.

@Mrs_Amanda: “Keep” cool”, I’d interpret as the fridge is fine.

@Mrs_Amanda: If the recipe says “keep cool” it means just refrigerate, not freeze.
@trueblue14: You can stabilize whipped cream in a number of ways:
-add 1 tablespoon of cornstarch for every cup of cream after the cream has reached soft peaks
-or add 1 teaspoon of gelatin softened in 1 tablespoon of water then heated in the microwave for 30 seconds. The gelatine will be clear and liquid and can now be used to stabilize the whipped cream.Add after cream has reached soft peaks.
– There is also a commercial product called “Whipit”.

@julies1949: thank you for that, interesting about the corn starch!
@trueblue14: TBH, I made it earlier this afternoon and it is in the fridge now. People should start arriving any minute and I feel just….weird. Nauseous even… so cool whip sounds really gross right about now to me, too! Even just thinking of the smell of it is kind of making my stomach turn 🙁 Weird.

Frige is fine, the freezer will make it more like ice cream.

@takemyhand: It was great! Fridge worked out well and even today it’s held up!
