A couple of days ago, someone posted information regarding tourist getting robbed on a bus or something in Mexico. That being said, FI and I are going to Cancun for part of our honeymoon and we are trying to figure out if we should order “stand-in” rings for when we do activities outside of our hotel.
I have added a poll to see what you all think…
***Disclaimer: I know that it is not only Mexico that can be dangerous, it is dangerous everywhere…. I am simply asking because that happens to be where we are going?
Thank you! 🙂

Havent Discussed this with anyone other than my mom yet, but FI and I have some pretty expensive rings and I was thinking since we were planning on getting married in mexico, that we would have stand-in rings

I didn’t bother. My rings are insured, and if I really was worried about them, I’d leave them in the room safe.

I got a stand in! Better safe than sorry!!!! You can never replace the original.

When we went to Cabo for our honeymoon I wore a stand in. I figured that for the $20 it was to have my travel ring and feel safe from losing it, theft etc. it was worth it. Although it was kinda sad to leave it at home and not have it to show off to other honeymooners we met! But looking back I’m glad I was careful. I was more scared about losing it in the ocean or something then it being stolen.

We wore stand ins for our honeymoon in Hawaii mostly because of fear of losing them in the pool or ocean.

No way! I’m on my honeymoon and I want to wear my real wedding ring. My ring is insured so if something unfortunate happened I could get it replaced.
I think the chances of the theft just because you’re wearing a wedding ring is very slim. Theft can happen to anyone and it might just be by chance that someone has a wedding ring on. I’m not concerned about losing it in the ocean either, my ring fits well and I never take it off.

We went on our honeymoon to Europe and I left my engagement ring at home and just wore my wedding bands, (which are only a few hundred dollars). I didn’t feel comfortable wearing my expensive engagement ring on vacation. But I don’t think I’d get a stand in either. I just wouldn’t wear a ring at all.

I was thinking of using a stand in until a friend of mine told me a story about her aunt. This lady decided not to wear her rings during her vacation, while away her home was broken into and her rings stolen. Chances of that are slim I am sure. Just thought I would share. Obviously it is a personal choice. Right now I am leaning towards wearing my rings during our Mediterranean vacation.

We got fake wedding bands not for security reasons but just because we were concerned about wearing our real ones in the pool and in the ocean. So we wore the fake ones during those activities and the real ones for everything else, like dinner out, etc.

We went to St John and I just wore my real set. I wasnt worried about beaches and pools. I’d only get a stand in set for security reasons.

If I’m not comfortable wearing my e-ring I just leave it at home locked up. If you’re afraid your e-ring will attrack the wrong kind of attention getting a stand in ring doesn’t solve that problem. If you’re afraid you’ll damage the ring during the activities take your ring and lock it up in your suitecase or something when you go out for the activities. That way you can wear your ring to dinner/during the day and not worry about damaging it.

I have a question about the concept of a stand in – why not just not wear a ring at all? Just wondering?

@yellowshoe: I agree. My stand in would just be a plain silver band or something not flashy at all.
@AshleyR83: For me, I would still want the a ring for what it symbolizes. Not that I’d forget that I’m married or something, but I do like having the ring and it screaming married for me. No really good reason other than just cause. 🙂

I wore a $10 ring that I bought at the mall to my honeymoon and left my real wedding band which cost over $600 at home. I was scared of losing it because we had so many activities and water sports and I thought it might slip off.
