Well etiquette indicates that they have up to a year after the wedding to send a gift, so that could be the reason for some of the delay. You can’t ever ask about the gift, put it on invitations, etc. So if they don’t send one, there really isn’t anything you can do about it. But think of it this way: when it comes their turn for their wedding, the general rule of thumb could be applied here. Not saying people would do it out of spite, but it happens.

Honestly, there isn’t much to handle. If she doesn’t receive a gift from them, she can send a note thanking them for coming to the wedding, but a gift is technically not required.
