Hi hive! I registered a few months back and after several recommendations, I added a Kitchen-Aid mixer. I have heard WONDERFUL things about them and am really keeping my fingers crossed that I get one at my shower next month! Here's my question: For those of you that have them/know a lot about them, what do you use yours for the most? I just want to make sure that it's something I'll use often!

I'm also having a hard time choosing a color. My realistic side tells me to get a black because I will have this for a VERY long time. However, my fun side sees all the pretty colors and tempts me to choose one of them haha. What color did you choose?

    Thanks :)

I have it in cobolt blue like all my other kitchen aid stuff :)

I use mine all the time to make cakes, cookies, muffins etc!

Anything that needs to be mixed it is amazing! I would not want to live without one (and never have!)

Edit- I'm sure I could use it for more but I LOVE kitchen stuff so I have TONS of stuff.

I have a silver one, I would have loved a color but I got it on a really good sale and only that color was included. Now looking back though I'm glad I have silver because all my appliances are stainless and it matches.

I use mine the most to make cakes, because I'm a hobby baker and it's the easiest way to make fondant and mix the batter, and homemade buttercreams. BUT I use it anytime I can because it's fun and the clean up is easy (so.. mixing any batter, pancakes etc...)

I hope you get it, you'll love it!

We chose red and just got it delivered to us--it's so cute! I don't think you can go wrong with any of their colors, because they're all classic. We figured most of the kitchen is white, black, or steel-colored, so a little pop of red would be fun.

We'll use it for baking, mostly (bread, cookies, cakes)... I'm curious to see what others use it for, too.

Hi! My mom has one and uses it for everything. Pancakes and waffles every weekend. All baked goods at holidays. There are also attachments for different stuff you could get later like ice cream maker and pasta maker and even meat grinder. I don't know that it is something I'll use every day, but every time I bake I wish I had one!

As for color... I was torn too! I knew I didn't want black, white, or stainless steal... if I wanted to spend that much (or let someone spend that much) I want to LOVE it and I couldn't see loving something that wasn't a fun color. As for which color... it was so hard! I love the classic red but nothing in my house is red. I narrowed it down to blue but I couldn't decide between the darker and lighter colored blue. The darker seemed more classic. The lighter a little retro/trendy. I actually went back and forth on the registry several times (and might still change!). As of right now though I went with the light robin's egg blue. Will it be the most in-fashion thing in 10-20 years? Nope, and I think I kind of love that! I think it will be an awesome reminder of the time in which I got married. It will be like my mom's avocado colored mixing bowls. And who knows.. maybe in 30 years it will be back in style! :)

@mishelleez: The cobalt blue is so pretty! All my other appliances are going to be black, but for some reason I'm really drawn to the light pink mixer haha!

@MissSawyer: Sounds like you get a lot of use out of it! I really hope I get it too!

I did not go with a black one simply because I knew that it would be a lifelong kitchen appliance--it would get way too messy with flour and other stuff and I felt like black would need constant attention. I was lucky enough to get a brushed chrome/silver colored one. I love it. It doesn't show any fingerprints.

As for what I use it for the most? Baking. I love baking and it is amazing how much faster cake batters or egg whites get whipped with that over a hand mixer. My next test of it will be bread; I am bit hesitant though as I love to knead my bread by hand, but I do want to try out the dough hook!

I registered for the stainless steel colored one. Those mixers last forever, choose a color that will go with any decor and you won't be tired of in 20 years.

I have a red one. I hope you get it. Even though I go through phases when I use it a lot and not so much, I couldn't imagine not having one. (Just also register for a hand mixer as that is also very useful) I use it most for cookies, and I only use the stand mixer for cookies (I don't ever use the hand mixer) and I use it for quick breads (pumpkin, banana) and cakes. I got red because it was one of two colors available at sam's club when my FI, brother and dad got it for me. But I love it a lot. If I had to choose I would get a matte color though.

@CorgiTales: That's a really good point! 20 years from now, I'll be able to to look back and think of registering for our wedding. And the robins egg blue is pretty too! I'm torn between red or pink haha. I'll never decide!

@Penguingal06: I use the dough hook for my fondant which is very similar to a heavy bread dough and it works awesome!

@nurselindsey: Good idea. I would hope for both. My hand mixer is kitchenaid too, but I registered for an upgrade with a little more power.

Mine is cobalt blue and I LOVE it.  I even got decals for it so that it has flames on it like Alton Brown's.  I bake a lot so I use it for that mostly.  It is almost impossible to make good bread without one (unless you have a breadmaker, I guess).

@nurselindsey:  I got the black "Caviar" its kind of a sparkly black, really subtle.  My mom has a pewter gray that's really classic too.  The problem with a fun color is that you really need the mixer out on your counter in order to use it consistently.  And I know I would personally get sick of a pink appliance after a few years.  I don't use mine as often as I should, but I love having it!

i LOVE mine. it was the first engagement gift we got! I registered for red, because our current kitchen is dark grey/black/white/stainless steel, and I know anywhere we move will have a more modern look like that (or, if we have wood cabinets, red goes as well).

I use it for baking (cakes and cookies) and making mashed potatoes (on weight watchers, so i throw the cooked potatoes in with some fage 0% yogurt and mix it up, sooooo good and not many points). we registered for the ice cream maker and pasta maker attachments, so I hope we get them and can use it for that too. We live in NYC and counter space is at a premium, but I REALLY use mine a lot, at least 2x a week, so it's worth it.

@kjwinter: I'm beginning to lean more away from the pink and towards the red because my kitchen is black/red/tan so either a black or a red would fit in well. And also, like you said about the wood cabinets, it would match when we move oneday!

I think the main reason I like the pink is because at BB&B some of the procedes go to breast cancer awareness. But I'll probably just go with the red. I'm indecisive haha.

I have a yellow one, and it looks great! I pretty much dont stir anything anymore ever.

Try something fun like home made marshmellows when you get it! I have the recipe on my blog which is on the monthly blogroll page this month.

    http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/share-your-blogs-september-2010/page/3

    Mine is post no 108.

Lots of bees have good recipes on their personal blogs, so the monthly sharing post is a good resource for new fun things to do with your kitchenaid!

I have the cobalt blue and I use it 2-3X per week.  I think I actually cook and bake MORE since it's so easy to just put the ingredients in the mixer, turn it on, and walk away.  I can load up the diswasher instead of standing there and beating the cake batter for 5 minutes.

I absolutely LOVE my mom's stand-up KitchenAid. She's had it for as long as I can remember (17+ years. I think I was ~8 when she got it) and it still works great. Her's is like a matte grey color because it was purchased before all the fun colors were out there. We used it for just about everything over the years. Your options of uses are wide open!

I really want one of my own, but because we still live in an apartment, I just don't have the extra space for one. Instead we got the 7 speed Artisan KitchenAid(colbalt blue) had mixer which is the best hand mixer I have ever had.  One day we will get the big guy, but this does the job for now.

I have a white one already, that I like (it's old) and the white shows food, etc. on it so easily so it always has to be cleaned or it looks gross. We registered for a new one in "caviar" which is a pebbled black/grey color.

My mom's is wonderful as well!  I think we've had it since I was about 10, and it's a cream color.  I have a feeling that it was one of the few colors available at the time!  We use it all the time for cookies, mashed potatoes, and dough!  I love it!

I got mine in red - and love it.  I hope that I always will too!  One random thing: Mine came from Target and the bowl doesn't have a handle.  It's just a bowl.  Not a big deal but the handle really comes in handy when locking it in place.

I just got mine last week (a gift to myself to celebrate almost 6 months of being married!) I made cookies on Friday and my husband made a loaf of bread on Saturday.

I decided to go with the brushed chrome so that it will look great on the counter regardless of how I change my decorations over the years. The caviar sounded really pretty too but it was on backorder when I went to order.

Mine is cast iron. The sucker is 3x heavier than the new ones. I got it for high scholl graduation (at my request) over twenty years ago. I love the colored ones, but I really love my cast iron kitchen aide and I am not even sure if they make them in cast iron anymore.

I love love love my mixer. I use it several times a week. I currently have it in white, but I only have the classic and I really need to upgrade it to a bigger size.

I'm eying the stainless steel. If you're not going for a pop of color, I'd suggest matching it to appliances?

which one are you getting?  i've got the 5 quart professional and it kicks so much ass.  btw it is white because when they discount them on Amazon some colors are cheaper, and white was under $200, but if i had a choice it would have been silver or red.

anyway, i thought i would use it for everything, but unless i'm making a very large amount of cookies/cake, etc, mainly i only use it for bread and frostings.  wierd huh?  let me tell you that thing makes bread making so simple, just dump it in and set on low 10 minutes.  done, all kneaded for you!  it's great for anything that requires whipped egg white/ whipped cream too, the whisk attachment on high is super fast, i can bang out marshmallows or swiss meringue in 10 minutes!

i recently got the meat grinding attachment but i haven't tried it out yet.  also, make sure you put one of those scraping beater attachments on there too, i've been meaning to pick one up, everyone i've asked says they are a must!

    you'll love it!
