First, congrats!! Second, we got the copy that our officiant signed but then found out that we needed to actually go to the court house to pick up a certified copy. When you go to change your name, some places may want the original, but others will want the certified–I know for me to get new SSN card, I had to have a certified copy.

Why don’t you give your officiant a call and ask what you’re supposed to do? I’m sure they’d be helpful! I know the rules are different everywhere so it’s hard to offer advice.

I would check with your officiant and the county to be sure.  They might have given you a copy so you can change your name right away.  Since he is filing a copy, I think that the copy you have isn’t the official copy.  Ours was mailed back to us after a week.
