I’ve seen photos of paper lanterns hanging from cafe lights. I doubt they’ll get hot enough, but just in case I would keep the paper from actually touching the bulb and making sure the frame of the lantern is hooked tightly to the strand/base of the bulb.

What about doing table runners? That will bring a lot of color and you could do them yourself with any fabric you choose.

I don’t know about the lanterns, but I am doing white poly tablecloths with organza overlays. The overlays are gold with a gold swirl. You can see a swatch at this link. I totally think the organza overlays are worth it. It brings a state of elegance to the table decor.

The photo doesn’t do justice to the swatches, but when I went in to choose my linens, I thought the overlay looked beautiful over the white. I could have gotten silk tablecloths, but the vendor told me that they wouldn’t be showing that much with the overlay on them, so to save some money, I went with the poly.

What about using a table runner instead of overlays? It breaks up the space more and they are usually cheaper. I don’t like organza b/c its so see through like you said, it doesn’t bring that much color, maybe a satin runner would work?
