Tomorrow DH and I are going to a med school semi-formal mixer and I’m going to wear an LBD that I currently have (a sleeveless banded dress from Express, pictured below). It’s very flattering and form-fitting, but I want to (finally!) invest in my first pair of spanx. Which kind/type would be the best for a dress like this? My focus point is my midsection (thighs and butt are okay!)
Here’s a pic of the dress I found in a google search:

Also: or any other brands you can recommend that actually work (never shopped for shapewear before!)

I love Spanx, but I they can be pricey. I also love Assets, which is sold at Target. It’s actually made by the same company that makes Spanx, they are just a little cheaper, and a little less rigid.
With that dress, I would suggest this style of Spanx/Assets:
It’s a mid-thigh shaper, and it goes right under your bra line. It’s amazing.
Here’s how to buy it: http://www.spanx.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11792156&cp=2992553.3010055&parentPage=family’ defer=’defer

Bump for the mid-day crowd!

I second the Assets line at Target. They have lots of different options from full slips, to half-slips (I love these, they cover from my bra down through my thighs), to waist cinchers. Spanx are great, but yeah they’re super expensive.

I have the extact Assests in the picture. They are a dream come true unless you have to pee! Then I’m back to stuffing sausage into the casing 😉

I wore the Assets pantyhose for my wedding this past Saturday…got way too hot and couldn’t wait to get them off, and was going around commando for our “after party”.
I prefer the Spanx brand over all others, even Assets – just a better quality material and I like the fit better. I just bought the mid-thigh shaper/waist high that I wished I wore instread.
Have tried other brands (Maindenform, Bali) but those wound up in the trash, while I wore my Spanx to death.
