I would just pay the $500 and not say anything - you can always say later on they decided to include it in the package. Your guests will start to wonder why they can have free wine but not free coke.
I agree. I think it's worth the $500 for you not to be worrying about it all night.
I've been to a dozen weddings in MA, and all non-alcoholic beverages were provided at 11 of them. There's always a cash bar for alcoholic beverages. I say pay the $500 yourselves.

Okay so my wedding is in Massachusetts with a lot of guests from Long Island NY and some from even further south. My dad is paying so basically what he says goes but I'm worried about the drink situation. He wants just wine on the tables and a champagne toast which was included in the package. This would mean guests would pay for their own soda and juice or any non-alcoholic drink besides water. I really don't want my guests to have to pay for their non-alcoholic drinks (it will cost $500 to provide it for everyone) My dad is really against it so I think we'll just pay for it ourselves so there will be wine and all the usual beverages. Do you think it's a waste for me to want to pay for it since my dad won't? (also I talked to my FMIL about it and she wants to give us the money to pay for it but I don't want to offend my dad by having them pay directly).
