Question about W-2 received for hours I didn't work

I just received a W-2 in the mail from a job I quit in 2010. I worked there all the way up to December 31, but quit before the new year. The W-2 says I made one weeks salary in 2011, which I know is incorrect. I'm not sure what to do about this. The amount it says I made is only a few hundred dollars, so my fiance says I should just ignore it. However, I'm not sure if I should call my old employer and have them correct this mistake. Any advice from tax savvy bee's? Is there anything negative that could happen if I ignore the W-2?

Call them and have it fixed, in case you get audited you dont want them to think you didn't report income.

It's not when you quit, its when you were paid. If you worked up until the 31st, I'm sure your paycheck was received in the new year. I just got one from my old job I quit in 2010 for my vacation payout I got in January 2011

@bdemps11:  Oh, that makes sense. I didn't even think about that.

So if I already had tax withheld, do I need to still file taxes? It's only a few hundred dollars of income.

I'm not a legal or tax expert, but I think you still have to file, because to them, they don't know how much more you made the rest of the year at different jobs and if they took out money at the right rate.

@love108:  That few hundred dollar income was all I made in 2011.

@Bichon Frise:  It depends on the state. I "think" California you have to make over 4,000$ to have to file or I may be totally incorrect. What they take out depends on your filing status, just becuase you claimed 0 dosen't mean you are actually a zero claim. Personally I'd file anyways.
