Question about your living room furniture..

@Jilliebean1:  My living room furniture came from TradeMe, which is kind of like the New Zealand equivalent of eBay.  I paid $100 for a 3-seater microsuede sofa in excellent condition, $10 for a coffee table, and… actually, that’s all that’s in my living room (I live in an apartment, so I have to take a minimalist approach to furnishing).  I love my sofa, and the coffee table does whatever coffee tables are supposed to do.  So glad I didn’t splash out on expensive new furniture!

ETA: It did actually take me a while to find these things – I didn’t want my apartment to look like a student flat, with cheap mismatched furniture.  I was probably very lucky to find that sofa.

We’ve always bought at local dealers.

But if you live in Boston, we love Cardi’s and Bernie and Phyll’s!

I’m a Craigslist kinda girl. I recently purchased my sofa and loveseat from someone on Craigslist and it was less than $250 for the set. They did need a bit of cleaning but otherwise they’re in great condition and they fit well in my apartment.

Now……………when I moved into my new apartment, I originally decided that it was time to get a sofa that I really loved. I splurged and bought a brand new grey sectional that I was absolutely in love with. Except…………it had bed bugs! I don’t know how it happened but it was a horror story all around. It ended up going back to the store.

@Jilliebean1:  I bought it from a local furniture store. It’s was Ashley brand but it wasn’t an Ashley store.

I never really worried about bed bugs until I discovered them. Now I’m totally paranoid. Not so much though that I didn’t take a chance on the Craigslist sofas, I just inspected them very carefully first. ((Shudder))

My husband owns a furniture store (online) so we get all of our furniture wholesale.  I’ve had my current living room furniture since June.  It’s comfortable and it’s the style I picked out but I’m starting to help him run the business so I look at new living room sets all the time.  I’ve already picked out something new and he has no problem getting it for me but it’s too big for the size of our apartment now.  I’m going to have to wait until we get a bigger place for that set.  We’ll probably switch out sets every 2 years or so and just sale the old ones on Craigslist.

Older Bee, so I’ve furnished my share of houses over the years.

I prefer well recognized Brand Name furniture… good Quality, Sturdy, lasts longer et.

So names like Kohler – Broyhill – La-Z-Boy

We primarily shop at Independent Furniture Stores… altho on occasion we’ll buy a piece (or an Appliance / Electronic item) from a Dept or Chain Store (like Leons, Sears, The Bay).

Lol NEVER The Brick.  Have had too many awful experiences with them.

We got our couch at Boston Interiors, I think it was about 2200.  We’ve had it for about 2.5 years now and still love it.  The only regret is that we got a sofa/love seat instead of a sectional.  Our coffee table and TV stand are from overstock for 300-400 and I love them.  They’re a pain to put together, about 4 hrs, but it’s worth the savings.

Free from a friend but dying to get a new set.  I don’t hate it, I just want that in the basement and something nicer for guests.

We got our sectional for $600 from Weekends Only and our coffee table for $50 from a thrift shop. FI wants to get a recliner as well and the one were looking at is about $200.

We got our sectional at American Furniture Warehouse (I think it’s CO only) and it was $500 on sale for a nice suede and leather sectional. We also have a coffee table ($100) from Ikea, entertainment center (free, given by a friend, from Ikea), end table ($30 – it was actually a shelving unit from Ikea that we sat on the floor), liqour cabinet ($75 – actually a dresser from Ikea that we repurposed), bookcase ($200 from American Furniture Warehouse), a desk/rolling chair (about $150 from Ikea). Our living room is quite large so we needed a lot of furniture.

Most of this was purchased about 1 year ago when we redid our living room. We absolutely love our stuff – it’s the look we wanted (sleek and modern), cheap, and has held up well to wear and tear.

My old roommates mother gave us (roommate and i) a brand new sofa and comfy chair for our apartment. When I moved out 6 months later, roommate asked me to take it with me. Welp, I couldn’t get it in my new apartment. FH and I tried for 6 hours, and it was impossible. we had to maneuver it through two doors offset from each other while moving up a staircase. Roommate and I were not on speaking terms at this point so I wasnt going to call him up to take it back. I would put it on craigslist, but it was winter and snowing so no one would want a soggy, frozen couch, so to the dumpster it went 🙁

FH and I spent most of our savings to move so we held off on new furniture. Eventually my co worker sold me her nice leather sofa and love seat for $150 total. glad we waited!
