Hello everyone! First time poster, long time luker. I’ve got a question that I’m hoping you all can help me with. We are having an open bar with beer and wine only for our reception and we get two choices of beer. The bar services woman is supposed to call me today to get my choices and I really have no clue on the second choice. I know we’ll do Miller Lite because that’s what FI likes, but I hate beer and have NO idea what another good choice would be. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated 🙂 Thanks!

There’s only about a million choices but if you’re making one be Miller Lite then the other should be a more full-bodied beer, perhaps even a darker beer. You might want to ask the bar services rep to list their most popular amber or brown beers, ales, and IPA’s, and go from there.

I would do a darker beer, like a shiner or ziegenbock

Maybe a Lager, like Yueingling or something.

@Babyroni: For common beers, I’d do Miller Light, Amstel, and maybe Yuengling.

@Babyroni: If its not to expensive, I do a slightly higher end beer for the second beer. (Honestly, I really dislike Mller lite, bud and the like. I am a bit of beer snob.) Do some sort of Sam Adams, Harpoon Magic Hat or Brooklyn. A lager or IPA is always popular. Even Heinikin might be a good second choice.

I’d do something the opposite of a cheap lager beer (not knocking it, I like Miller Lite too) … some sort of microbrew version of a pale ale, IPA, brown ale, etc. Do they offer only certain kinds? You could get a list of what they have and post them here…

Based off of what state and date are listed next to your name, and the fact that you should probably opt for a second beer that’s different from the first…I concur with Yuengling, but I’d also suggest Bell’s Best Brown (out of Michigan) or Great Lakes Elliot Ness (out of Ohio – amber lager).

Is the venue offering bottles or something on tap?

@littlemisst08: my FI would agree with you. he loves shiner (but we can’t get it out here).
i don’t drink beer, but i’d say have something like sam adams, or heinekin.

Thank you for all of the suggestions. So I will ask for a popular darker or amber beer (thank you for the terminology, I have no clue about beer) possibly an IPA or Sam Adams if they have those.
@lolot: They didn’t have a list to give me at the reception hall. They just said she would call me with the options. They seemed to think there was quite a variety to choose from, so hopefully there will be some good ones in there. 🙂
@ButterflyButterfly: It will be on tap 🙂

@colorofmyheart: I forget shiner is harder to come by for most, oops! Your FI has good taste though 🙂

My fiance loves a Sam Adams Lager. He has been drinking a lot of Molson Black Crown lately just because it’s ridiculously cheap at Target ($5.99/6 pack). If you have any serious beer drinkers they would probably enjoy an option other than Miller (no offense to your future hubby!) The men in my fiance’s family enjoy Smithwicks, Murphy’s, Sam Adams, and the like. Good luck! If you want a relatively cheap beer Molson Canadian is usually good.

@Babyroni: I agree with PP and the medium or dark beer. However, I’ll add, what about a local beer (either to Indiana or your city)? That always makes things more personal.
