So I was talking to my old roommate earlier and she is the definition of an extrovert. Me? I’m an introvert. Sometimes the difference in our personalities can be annoying. She doesn’t understand what it means to be an introvert. She tries to get me to be more outgoing and social when I simply don’t want to be.
Anyway. So we were talking about making plans to visit her at her apartment. We mentioned doing something on Wednesday or Thursday this week. And then she says, “Ok cool! My cousin will be here too.”
I got a little bit annoyed because I just want to hang out with her, not her plus someone I don’t know. So I kind of backed out and said that I needed to check my schedule for sure but if we didn’t hang out this week, it would be next week. Then she said, “Ok, no problem.” And that was it.
I guess my question is, do you ever get annoyed when you hang out with a friend and they unexpectedly invite someone you don’t know? Have you ever canceled plans because of that?
Now I’m not a social hermit or anything. I do have friends. I’m okay with meeting new people as long as I’m sort of prepared for it. I just got a little aggravated this time because I’m trying to catch up with my old roommate (who I haven’t seen in two months) and I just wanted it to be me and her hanging out.
So are you like me? Do you dislike meeting new people in a social setting unexpectedly?
