I bought my dress on craigslist without trying it on. I had tried it on in a bridal shop, but they wanted over $600 for it. I got it for way less than that, but it doesn’t fit. I can get it on, but it won’t zip. I have thought about putting a corset into it, but I am afraid that it will end up costing more than I paid for the dress.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

@ehsquared: I think your only option is to put a corset in it. Removing the zipper and adding the loops and lacing should be fine.
Have you asked around with regard to pricing for this? Does the rest fit?

Depends on your bone structure. I know if a garment didn’t fit me, it pretty much means it won’t fit. I’ve looked at a dress and been positive that a garment would fit but couldn’t get it zipped. Does it fit around your hips?
If you feel there is some room to lose weight somehow and fit into the dress then by all means try that before altering the dress.
Maybe pictures would help.

@tiny tuna: Yes! I think the rest fits. I can get the dress on over my hips, and I can hold it up, but it just won’t zip. I have talked to several seamstresses, and have gotten prices from $40 to $150. I really just need to have someone look at it, but I can’t seem to find anyone who is closer than an hour away.
@Atalanta: Yes, I totally agree about diet. I am really trying to eat better and excercise more. Since our wedding is pretty far away, I don’t think it should be very hard. It’s just once I start something I need to keep up with it.
