My BMs and I are trying to find a good place to hold my bachelorette party. We want to spend the weekend on a beach somewhere in NJ, DE or MD. I'd prefer to go somewhere low-key-ish (we want to hangout on the beach all day) that also has a decent nightlife. Ocean City, MD is definitely out (too crazy). Rehoboth Beach looks a little pricy. Are there places similar to Rehoboth than don't cost as much?

Is AC too crazy?  You could go to Brigantine, Ventnor or Margate beach during the day, and AC at night.  Cape May is also really nice, if not a bit expensive, and I don't know about the nightlfie.

Cool, thanks everyone! Looking into these now.

@MrsSl82be -Yeah, we did do a google search, but it's hard to know what the towns are actually like by just looking at the map. Bethany Beach looks like a good posibility. And LOL about OC. I went there for my "senior trip" after high school. Once was enough :)

@EleanorRigby - Yeah AC is a little too crazy. We don't want to be staring at each other wondering what we should do with ourselves at night, but I also don't want to do any major clubbin' either. :)

sea isle city, nj isnt a bad option - big beaches, and bars (but not clubs) around the island that normally have a band playing on the weekends

AC has some relatively low-key places.  A lot of the casinos have beach bars off of the boardwalk and there's also The Deck at Trump Marina... haven't been there in a while though.  I'm from AC and I've actually never even been in a club there unless you count the Irish bar inthe Quarter or Game On.  Just keep that in mind in case everything else turns out to be too expensive.

    @moondrop:umm yeah, duh. :facepalm:

I haven't been to Bethany in a while, but I think for what you are looking for, it would be a nice option.  Maybe try googling reviews for the specific beach.I think DE in general is going to be the calmest place, but not sure how each beach stacks up with entertainment

Wildwood, NJ is pretty low-key. I used to go there every summer when I was little so it's more "family-oriented" than what you see on "Jersey Shore". FI and I went last summer actually and had a really nice, relaxing time.

You guys are awesome. Thanks so much!

@MrsSl82be - cool! Yeah, I think you're probably right about DE. Now if only we can magically find a house for 6-8 people riiiight on the beach for, say, $300 for the whole weekend :-P Hah!

@EleanorRigby - good to know! I actually don't know much about AC. I had written it off but it sounds like it might also be a decent option

Dewey or Bethany in DE for sure. Both of those are beautiful, low key, but there are still things to do. My FIL's live about 7 miles West of Behtany, so FI and I spend lots of time there during the summer. Its one of our favorite places!

I agree with Dewey or Bethany. Bethany could be good because its right next to Dewey but more low key/family oriented but still within good distance to the bars/restaurants of Dewey.

Atlantic City is a great choice, because you can go to the beach all day there and still have stuff to do at night as well. Another option could be Belmar, the beach is beautiful there and there are plenty of bars around if you are looking to do something at night.

My impression is that AC's beaches are generally more party beaches - am I wrong?

I guess I'm looking for more of a family-friendly beach during the day, with fun bars/ nightlife at night.

    Thanks again!!

I wouldn't go to AC beach during the day because Brigantine is so much nicer.  It is literally 5 minutes away and is a quintessential little beach town.  As far as being family friendly, none of the beaches in NJ that I am aware of technically allow alcohol.  Brigantine is definitely a family friendly beach.  AC beach is just a little scuzzy, but you don't need a beach badge.

@EleanorRigby - Awesome! Thanks SO much for your help. Looking into Brigantine now. The prices look reasonable, and it looks like it could be a good mix of family friendly beaches with good nightlife (especially at AC) if my friends want to get a little crazy.

One last question - what's a beach badge??

I don't know anything about the hotels in Brigantine, but the beaches are nice, and it is very close to AC.  Actually, Harrahs, Borgata, and Trump Marina are technically in Brigantine, but near the bay.  I think all of the NJ beaches, besides AC proper, require beach badges (to show you paid to use the beach).

In Brigantine, I don't know how much $ they are now, but basically teenagers come around (wearing white shirts) and you need to show them your badge or buy one for a day on the beach.  If you pretend you are sleeping they might go away, or if you say really nicely that you were going to leave in 20 minutes.  I usually just get up and start walking either into the water or in the opposite direction when I see them.

I'm from south jersey so I would say nix AC for the beach. Dirty and too much riff raff wondering around. Brigantine is very nice and still close o AC if you want to party...at your risk of course. Wilwood is cool, seaside heights, sea isle city...a lot of options

You've probably made your decision by now, but I have 2 cents I want to throw in.

Try Asbury Park! My handle is "MissTillie" so you know I'm biased, but really, give it a try! The city has a bad reputation for crime (exaggerated IMO), but that's fine because it keeps the annoying "Jersey Shore" types away. As long as you stick to the east side of town you'll be fine.

Prices are cheap for a shore town too. Bars & clubs will rarely charge a cover and there are plenty of choices from charming dives to high class lounges. The town is pretty small so everything is pretty much within walking distance from everything else. Beach passes were only $5 per day starting memorial day last I checked. I've had many a fun weekend in good old AP!
