As far as I understand, you shouldn’t get in trouble for this. (If anyone knows more about it, feel free to correct me). 

They got married, and his wife is a legal citizen, so he should be entiteled to apply for a Green Card. It would really be the same as if he were living in his home country and they met, got married, and then he applied. People do this *all* the time. 

You aren’t supporting his illegal status, you’re supporting him getting his Green Card legally, since he is now married to a legal citizen.
