My husbands 30th birthday is coming up and thanks to some advice from you bees I decided to throw him a surprise birthday. I picked a weekend and so far have about 20 people coming with more that haven’t RSVP’d yet. I am excited that all of his friends want to be here. The only problem is the weekend I picked he has class all day before. I thought it would be great because I would have all day to get ready and everyone would be here before he got home. Here is the problem he got home from class today and it’s only 630 and he is exhausted! He’s falling asleep on the couch. I’m so worried now he won’t want a party after class. Should I cancel Or hope that he can have fun that night?

Maybe you could tell him that you’ve made dinner reservations for the two of you, so he’ll be prepared to be doing something that evening, vs. preparing to relax?

Thanks for the idea. He woke up so I asked him if he wanted to do anything with me for his birthday and he said no that he was too busy and wouldn’t be up for it. So I guess I have to cancel. I feel terrible it’s his 30th all of his friends were excited. He just said the next weekend would be more fun but I have plans for his actual birthday present that night. Uggh I’m so overwhelmed trying to make it special for him.

@eastcoaster: You said he was falling asleep on the couch the day he had class… What about the day after?

I’d be honest and just tell him. Say I planned a party for you, if you will not be up for it, I will cancel it. What do you want me to do? And make sure he knows no hard feelings either way!
