I've heard it several ways. Umm, if you are getting alterations there I would think they would keep it until they are done. This has always been my experience, but I'm not positive about this. I've heard some brides say that their dress shop didn't have room to store dresses so they had to pick it up. I think it depends on the store.
The bridal shop where I bought the BM dresses is storing them free of charge until the wedding. You might ask them if they offer this service.
I think it all depends on when you are doing alterations. I Picked up my dress and took it home because I didnt plan on doing alterations for a few months and I also wanted to call around to other alterations places sometimes smaller places are MUCH cheaper then dress places!

When your dress has arrived at the store and needs to be altered, there, do you go ahead and pick it up? Or do you leave it there for alterering? Do you pick it up and bring it back for alterering, and then leave it there as she works on it? I'm just curious. I don't know about these things. Of course, I would be nervous to leave it there...they could lose it...ha. They just called and left a message saying it arrived and is ready for pick-up.
