I went with perfect circle through jewelers mutual. It cost me 1% of the total cost of my ring per year to insure it. Worth it to me! It was less than adding it to my renters but I cannot remember how much exactly they quoted me now.

I have renters through my car insurance (Geico) and pay only $17/month (with Travelers).

I haven’t claimed anything through either yet so can’t speak much to that aspect of it.

@BeeinBoston:  Mine is insured through our rental insurance – which is about $45/month. I live in Boston, too, so $70 definitely seems high!

@BeeinBoston:  I also have Perfect Circle/Jewelers Mutual. It’s $25/year.

We use Jewelers Mutual to insure my ring and my FI’s Breitling watch. Their rates are very reasonable…they were recommended to us by the jeweler we purchased the watch from.

I’d read the fine print of the renters’ insurance – especially whether they cover accidental loss and damage or not (for me that’s the huge one – I run a much higher risk of misplacing my ring than of being robbed…). If not, it might make sense to get a separate policy.

ETA: we have USAA and their rates are pretty amazing, but they are for military only.

My ring is under our homeowners insurance, and we pay 1% of the value of my ring per year.

I live in a suburb of Boston and I only pay $108 for the entire year for renter’s insurance! When I added my ring it increased the policy by about $30 for the year.

My ring is insured through my renters insurance/car insurance.  I don’t know the specifics about the policy; however, when I was speaking with the State Farm rep she said if ANYTHING happens to it (stone lost, ring lost, etc.) they will cover it.  I think I pay an extra $10 a month or so for it, but I have a somewhat high deductible ($500) which would be nothing compared to the cost of the ring.
