I am still in the process of makng these. I would say I’ve spent about $35 for everything. I used 3 in balls which are sold in packs of 6 at Walmart for $3.50. I purchased 10 packs of tissue paper at Walmart as well for $1 each. I used 3 pieces per flower and found that it was plenty. Then floral wire and ribbon were my other expenses.

@chel2thec: For me fabric poms were cheapier and easier to make (just MY experiance). The tissue paper ones looked very cheesy and I was very afriad to store them. Make sure you look at several differnt methods and a strongly do not recommend using a glue gun… or glue.

I have spent 150 in supplies for 35 ( I still have more fabric and balls left over..) Time is what will kill you on this project.. just yesterday I slipped into pomander hell. lol… you can look for my post on my profile.

I used the 6 inch balls.  They are not cheap, they are around $4.00 and I needed 21 of them.  So I’ve been buying one a day after work using my Hobby Lobby 40% off coupon.

I over bought on tissue paper.  I wanted 3 very certain colors and the only way for me to get the colors I wanted was to buy wholesale.   The plus side is we will not have to buy tissue paper for gifts during our lifetime.  I’m sure people will get tired of our overly tissued stuffed gift bags.

I’m not sure how much tissue paper I really needed, maybe around 75 sheets or so. I cut them into 5 X 7 squares and used 4 square sheets per flower.

Floral wire was pretty cheap.  I got lucky, my future Mother-In-Law had a ton of ribbon in the color I needed.

If you want to save a little money, use the slightly smaller styrofoam balls that come in multi-packs–I think we used 3″ instead of 4″ because you can buy them in packs of 6 at Hobby Lobby. You can always cut the tissue paper squares a little larger if you are worried that the pomanders will be too small. I can’t remember how much we spent but this might help you calculate:

styrofoam balls: 6 pack for about $7 at Hobby Lobby

tissue paper: most stores sell 8-10 sheets for $1, but sometimes you can get multipacks for cheaper at the dollar store!

*I think our squares measured 5×5 and we used 5 per flower…so for a 10 sheet pack that measures 20×20 uncut, we got 32 flowers. Each pomander took between 20-25 individual flowers inserted in the styrofoam.  So think about hot many pomanders you want and do the math for styrofoam tissue paper; that will be the majority of the cost

ribbon: can be as cheap as $1 but you may need multiple spools, try Michaels or HL

glue sticks/gun: if you don’t already own them, that’s a factor

floral wire: very cheap for a lot of it; got ours at HL

P.S. these can take awhile, start now!

*edit to add picture* You can kind of see our pomanders in this pic…I’m at work and don’t have detail shots handy. But that’s what the result looks like with the materials we used!
