@BellJarBride:  Mine is usually ramped up before bed, right before I fall asleep. I’ve come to think this is because my mind is left to wander to things that stress me out and everything I had been suppressing throughout the day is able to move up. I recommend deep breathing exercises and meditation if you’re looking for a holistic way to manage it.

Exercise helps me a lot. But so does medication. Mine got so bad I was clamping my jaw/teeth grinding at night and had over a full month of nightmares plus other things before I finally made a doctors appointment.

@BellJarBride:  I have GAD, and exercise really helped me out a lot. Most of my anxiety would be the worst before bed, even if I wasn’t thinking about what made me anxious. Besides exercise, I second the breathing exercises. I also went to the natural health food store and got some anti-anxiety vitamins/pills. They are made for in-the-moment anxiety attacks. I actually found them to be quite helpful. If I laid down and felt like I was too anxious I would pop one in my mouth and fall asleep soon thereafter.

I aslo quit watching TV/Netflix in bed or a half an hour before bed, so if you do this I would recommend quitting as that can keep your mind racing, even if it feels like it makes you tired. It was a hard habit to break, but I am so much better for it.

Honsetly, it depends on the person. When I was going through really bad anxiety and depression, it always was the absolute worst in the morning.

I really took control of my anxiety/depression last year.

I see my psychologist once a week and I see a psychiatrist once a month who helps manage my medication. I’m just about to be weaned off the medication. While the medication definitely helped me start feeling human again, the real work was done by taking the time in talk therapy…eventually things just start to click and became easier. What really struck a chord was realizing that everything is not in black and white or all or nothing.  Also, you have to deal with the root of it all. Sometimes its not clear what that is, it took me years to figure it out.

I have diagnosed OCD and hypochondria. Behavioral therapy helped me for awhile but mine got bad enough that I finally got put on Prozac by my doctor. I’ve only been taking it for 2 months, but I have noticed an improvement. The meds have definitely helped more than anything else.

@BellJarBride:  It is definitely SO difficult! Esp since your emtions and thoughts are so strong. Sometimes I just think it doesn’t work until you are ready to face it…can’t force it you know? Practice makes perfect, hoping for recoveries to all the bees suffering from these disorders!

@BellJarBride:  My anxiety has always been worse at night. I prefer to handle as many health problems as possible without medication. Yoga is great for anxiety, and many other things as well.

@BellJarBride:  Chamomile is great and so is lavender. Lavender helps at night and can be very soothing. Chamomile you can drink as a tea and lavender I would suggest using as an oil. Look into Young Living Essential Oils. There is one for about every health problem and I can attest that they really work. Other than that make sure you are eating right. I had a lot of caffeine and sugar in my diet and that overall made a big difference. I also removed any artificial food coloring from my diet. Hope this helps!

Edit: I forgot to mention that I will mix the lavender oil with my night time lotion and  use is all over my body. I sleep like a baby, it kind of helps your mind shut down for a bit,
