Hi all, I’m about to go today and meet with people for alterations quotes and I wanted to ask any seasoned brides for some advice on the matter.
- Are there any huge red flags I should be aware of while talking to a seamstress?
- Do alterations places normally have guarentees or replacement policies for if the worst should happen?
- How long should alterations (hemming, taking in the bodice and a bustle) approximately take?
Thanks ladies, I plan on asking the same basic questions to the seamstresses but I’m hoping to gain a little insight from you fine people as well! Any advice or answers is super appreciated!! <3

@murmur: I don’t have answers for all your questions as my alterations were minor, but I will tell you that word of mouth from people you know really helps. Ask people you know have been in weddings or other formal events lately about their experiences at alteration places in your town. I was going to go through one place that had good reviews online until I talked to three different acquaintances who had horrible experiences. I ended up going with a lady in my town who owns a little “hole in the wall” shop, but she did an AMAZING job on my dress, my mother’s dress, and my bridesmaids’ dresses. So glad I asked around!

That’s a great idea! I’m going to a bridal show tomorrow, maybe I will just stop random girls and ask! haha. Thank you =)
