So I'm meeting with my photographer today, whom I've booked but haven't actually met. I live on the other side of the country than where I'm getting married, so my mom met the guy and I saw his website and it looked good. But I wanted to meet him so I'd actually at least have met the guy who is supposed to be getting up close and personal on the biggest day of my life!! But since we already have him booked, I'm not sure what to ask him. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I should ask so I don't look like a total weirdo when we meet?

Here's some questions that I advise my brides to ask.....hope this helps and good luck with the meeting!

  • What’s your primary photography style? Posed and formal, relaxed, photojournalistic, creative, artistic, candid, traditional?
  • Do you shoot in color or black and white? Or both? Do you shoot in a digital format that can create both color and b/w versions of the same picture?
  • What kind of input can we have on the direction of the shots? Can we give you a shot list to work from?
  • Are you the wedding photographer who will actually take our pictures? If not, can we meet the person who will be?
  • Can we meet any assistants who will also be our taking pictures?
  • How many times have you worked specifically as a wedding photographer? How many were similar to the size and formality of our wedding? How long have you been working as a photographer?
  • How many other events will you also photograph that weekend? What happens if you can't make our event? Do you have liability insurance?
  • What kind of equipment will you bring with you? How intrusive will lighting, tripods, other equipment or assistants be?
  • Do you develop your own film?
  • Can we buy the negatives from you? Do you offer high resolution images with copyright releases?

Since you've already booked the photographer, I'd just ask things like what you should expect on the day, how the formal pics are going to go, if s/he needs anything from you, etc.  And I think you should take the opportunity to communicate with him/her about your concerns, wishes, insecurities, etc.  Just have a nice chat and talk about whatever comes to mind, get to know your photographer a little bit! :)
