(Closed) Questions to other pregnant ladies

I had a million and one questions when I was pregnant, so I can really relate πŸ™‚

1) I didn’t really need to buy a new bra, I lost a bit of weight during the pregnancy so it balanced out my breast growth. Just wait until your bras get to small. Don’t try to predict your breast growth. My friend did that and ended up buying a bunch of too small bras and some that were way to big.

2) At about 15 weeks I stopped fitting into my normal clothes. I had a small bump and don’t usually wear very tight fitting clothes so I got away with wearing some of my clothes throughout. I had a good pair of maternity leggings and then just wore stretchy dresses and long shirts.

3) I loved Ina May Gaskin’s Guide to Childbirth. It really calmed my nerves about a lot of things.

4) I didn’t really read a lot of blogs/websites. I looked at the fetal growth chart on the bump.

5) No morning sickess for me, so I didn’t really have to watch what I ate. I didn’t get cravings either, but I loved fresh fruit and everything cold.

As people start to answer your questions you’ll find that we are all very different in our pregnancies.  You are not alone in your millions of questions and I’m sure the hive is happy to help.

1) When did you buy a larger bra & when did your breasts grow?   I still haven’t needed to and I’m 37 weeks.  I know I will once my milk comes in but so far, no need to go up a size.

2) When did you start to grow out of your clothes?  By about 12 weeks my pants didn’t button at all and the bella band wasn’t quite comfortable enough by itself any more.  I bought a few transition-type tops at the end of the 1st tri/beginning of the 2nd and went ahead and bought pants a few weeks later.  So much more comfortable!

3) Can you recommend some good books about being pregnant?  The only books I purchased/read were the usual “What to Expect” and Ina May’s “Guide to Childbirth”  I’m sure there are plenty of other great books out there but I didn’t want too much information since I would obsess over differing information.

4) What are your favorite pregnancy websites/blogs?

5) What were/are your favorite foods to eat during your first trimester? My diet consisted of a toddler’s diet once morning sickness set in.  Try to get proteins in as much as possible but for me, that only consisted of eggs and nuts.  Meats grossed me out for a long time.  I ate alot of mac-n-cheese, cheerios, and soup since that tended to stay down.

1) When did you buy a larger bra & when did your breasts grow? My regular bra stopped fitting really early on, so I went around 12 weeks or so to get fitted for a new one. I am almost 31 weeks and I am going to go shopping for some nursing bras soon.

2) When did you start to grow out of your clothes?  I am shorter (5’2) and I found my jeans to be uncomfortable pretty early on like 11 or 12 weeks because they seemed to dig into my uterus. The belly band never really stayed put the way I wanted to so I bought two pairs of maternity jeans with the shorter elastic band. Those worked until about 18/20 weeks when I found they felt like they dug in and the jeans with the panel were much more comfortable. I really like the Liz Lange jeans from target and the super secret belly fit jeans from motherhood maternity.

3) Can you recommend some good books about being pregnant? I really liked Ina May Gaskin’s “Guide to Childbirth.” What to Expect When You’re Expecting is okay if you want just a general idea of what is happening each month

4) What are your favorite pregnancy websites/blogs?  I don’t have too many pregnancy blogs that I read, but I like Mrs. Tiramisu’s since we are close in due dates:  http://ohapostrophe.blogspot.com/

I also like to read the e-mails that fitpregnancy.com and thebump.com send out about what is going on weekly with your baby.

5) What were/are your favorite foods to eat during your first trimester? : Mashed potatoes were a favorite during the first trimester. I was sick all of the time and they were one of the foods I could stomach. Peanut butter crackers also would tide me over. I’d say when you are sick and throwing up, just eat whatever sounds good or you can get down and try to improve from there once you get past that stage.

I’m the first of my friends and siblings to be pregnant, so I feel you!

1) When did you buy a larger bra & when did your breasts grow?   I’m 16 weeks and on my 2nd new sized bra. Whenever I get uncomfortable, I take a trip to the store. I don’t buy expensive bras, and don’t get that many b/c I know they won’t fit for long.

2) When did you start to grow out of your clothes?  Like you said, everybody is different. I popped pretty early, I started wearing maternity clothes right at 12 weeks.

3) Can you recommend some good books about being pregnant? I read What to Expect and Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy. I liked What to Expect, I thought it was very informative. A lot of people say it scares you, but I didn’t get that at all. It does tell you things that could go wrong, but just b/c they can doesn’t mean they will. Girlfriends guide was both informative and funny. I also read the Jenny McCarthy book, and disliked it. It was funny, but didn’t give me much info.

4) What are your favorite pregnancy websites/blogs? I like babycenter.com. If you sign up you can get weekly updates about where you are in your pregnancy. Other then that, I just stick to the bee’s baby boards.

5) What were/are your favorite foods to eat during your first trimester? : I also ate mostly bread and carbs during my first trimester. The only meat I could keep down was Chick-Fil-A chicken sandwich. And chicken soup. Every night I wanted soup.

1) When did you buy a larger bra & when did your breasts grow?  mine started hurting around 8 weeks really bad, like would wake me up in the middle of the night bad.  They’re still more sensitive but the pain lasted till maybe 14 weeks or so, and that’s about the time I bought a bigger bra.

2) When did you start to grow out of your clothes?  I could feel the difference, especially after eating really early, like 6 weeks.  I got the belly band maybe around 14 weeks and I can still fit in my jeans and the belly band now (26 weeks) but I prefer my stretch pants.  Longer shirts were nice to have also but I still wear most of my old shirts still.

3) Can you recommend some good books about being pregnant?  I would just go to barnes and nobles or borders and take an afternoon to yourself and see what writing style you prefer.

4) What are your favorite pregnancy websites/blogs?  I haven’t gotten into blogs but the only other baby site I really visit is baby center, they have some good updates for how the baby is growing.

5) What were/are your favorite foods to eat during your first trimester? :  I made pans and pans of zucchini bread and would eat it for my 3 or 4 am snack and for breakfast and for snacks during the day.  Also hot sauce on any dinner food.

I’m with you! I always have a million questions, sometimes I feel like I spend all my free time googling stuff!

1) When did you buy a larger bra & when did your breasts grow?  I’m currently 12 weeks and recognize that my bras don’t fit *well* anymore, but am trying to wait a few more weeks in case they grow even more. I would like to invest in a really nice bra that will “grow with me” (those exist, right?) so I don’t want to get new ones too early.

2) When did you start to grow out of your clothes? Since about a week ago, my pants don’t button comfortably anymore. To be honest, I usually unbutton them when I’m sitting at my desk (shh don’t tell…). I’m not quite showing yet, but my stomach is definitely biger. Some of my more fitted sweaters and other tops are starting to bulge. So I’m thinking about making a trip to the mall this week to get one pair of stretchy-top work pants and a few flowy tops to hide the growing bulge. Hoping I can wait a few more weeks until I venture all the way into the maternity section.

3) Can you recommend some good books about being pregnant?  The only book I’ve read is The Girlfriend’s Guide to Pregnancy by Vickie Iovine. I found it very easy to read and somewhat funny, I would recommend it.

4) What are your favorite pregnancy websites/blogs?  Well…this is the only one I go to regularly! I wish there were more like it! I usually end up on babycenter with questions too.

5) What were/are your favorite foods to eat during your first trimester? :  I have had a lot of cravings AND morning sickness, which sucks. I tend to really want specific stuff and then it makes me queasy to eat it. I’ve always been crazy about chocolate and desserts, but surprisingly I have been craving lots of meat and salty foods since like week 6. I also eat a lot of crackers, peanut butter, bananas, pears as snacks.

I’m the almost last of my friends to have kids, so I can ask them tons of things!LOL They heled with the labor questions.

1) When did you buy a larger bra & when did your breasts grow?   Not yet @ 10wks tomorrow

2) When did you start to grow out of your clothes? I wear some, because the shirts are more comfortable than my regular ones.

3) Can you recommend some good books about being pregnant? Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy. It was funny, but it gave great info!

4) What are your favorite pregnancy websites/blogs? I like The Mommy Playbook, those ladies know a LOT of stuff.

5) What were/are your favorite foods to eat during your first trimester? :Mine vary. It was grilled cheese, then junk, then fruit, now I don’t want to eat at all.

Everybody has questions, ask away πŸ™‚

Here are my two cents:

1) When did you buy a larger bra & when did your breasts grow?

I think it was about 12 weeks or so- I went to Target and found some great cheap bras that were one band and one cup size bigger. I bought two and have been alternating between them every day since. I’m now at 31 weeks and the cup size still fits more or less ok, but a few weeks ago the band got too uncomfortable. Rather than buying new bras, I just bought bra extenders and that is still getting me buy. I’m hoping I can hold out with just these for several more weeks and then I’ll get a couple nursing bras.

2) When did you start to grow out of your clothes?

Bella Bands alone pretty much got me from week 12 to week 16 or so, and I had enough loose-fitting tops that I didn’t really need pregnancy tops till near the end of the second trimester. My favorite maternity wear purchases are my black work pants from the GAP, Liz Lange jeans from Target, and black yoga or lounge pants (can’t remember exactly what they call them) from the GAP. I also got several long-sleeved plain tops from Target and those have been great.

3) Can you recommend some good books about being pregnant?

I liked “What to Expect” and “Girlfriend’s Guide to Pregnancy.” My husband liked Penny Simkin’s “The Birth Partner.” The book I use most often though, is “Baby Bargains”- you don’t need it early on but once you start thinking about baby stuff, it’s super useful.

4) What are your favorite pregnancy websites/blogs?

I liked Weddingbee’s Mrs. Shortcake’s posts. I also like the blog “Marriage Confessions”- it’s more relationship/parenting focused, but she’s due right around when I am so I like feeling like we’re going similar things.

5) What were/are your favorite foods to eat during your first trimester? :

I ate a ton of gnocchi, a lot of matzo ball soup, and a bunch of English muffins. Oh, and Bagelfuls from the freezer section. I also went through a brief and weird phase where Spaghetti-Os seemed really appealing. I was thirsty all the time, and watermelon shakes (i.e. stick a bunch of watermelon in the blender) really hit the spot.

I totally feel you on this, I am the first of my friends to be preggers and its easy to feel lost…thankfully we have each other πŸ™‚ lol

1) When did you buy a larger bra & when did your breasts grow?

Im 16 weeks and boobs are starting to get pretty full, but i have yet the need to buy a new bra.

2) When did you start to grow out of your clothes?

I started to grow out of my clothes at about 12 weeks. It was mostly jeans that didnt fit well. At 16 weeks i looks about 6 months pregnant lol… Ive been wearing nothing but maternity clothes now. Pants and skirts anyways.

3) Can you recommend some good books about being pregnant?

Ive been reading What to expect…but i dont find it very helpful but a decent read when i have a quick question.

4) What are your favorite pregnancy websites/blogs?

Defo babycenter.ca…LOVE the videos

5) What were/are your favorite foods to eat during your first trimester? :

I was barely able to eat when i was in my first trimester. Crackers and ginger ale got to be too much afterwhile, so I stuck to what my body craved. If i wanted mac and cheese… thats what i ate… it usually stayed down. I couldnt eat meat though.

1. I used my regular bras the whole pregnancy, I didnt need anything different until after my milk came in. (Then I just bought one size larger)

2. At about 15-16 weeks I really started needing maternity pants. I suggest investing in at least one good pair or jeans because you will feel like crap in cheap ones. I could wear my normal flowy tops till the end.

3. Ina Mays Guide to Childbirth was excellent. It seemed kind of wacky at first but very very informative. Also, Penny Simkins books are great.

4. I only googled what questions I had, didnt exactly read blogs.

5. Peanut butter crackers held me over until the second trimester. Also, pudding was good! Anything else sounded nasty.

Good luck!

I am only about 10 weeks right now but here is what I’ve found to be true for me:

1) When did you buy a larger bra & when did your breasts grow?

Right away mine got really dense/solid feeling.  I haven’t bought new bras yet (I’m trying to prolong it) but I am getting close.

2) When did you start to grow out of your clothes?

In the past couple of days I have noticed that jeans are feeling a bit tight…they still button but by the end of the day, or while sitting, or if I’m not as “regular” as I usually am, or if I’m feeling gassy, they are a bit uncomfortable.  I have some belly bands and that seems to help.  I bought my first maternity clothes this week but I haven’t used them yet.

3) Can you recommend some good books about being pregnant?

I have Fearless Pregnancy:Wisdom and reassurance from a doctor a midwife and a mom by Victoria Clayton, Stuart Fischbein and Joyce Weckl.  I like it a lot…it is really helping to me to be Fearless!

4) What are your favorite pregnancy websites/blogs?

Babycenter and babble.com

5) What were/are your favorite foods to eat during your first trimester?

I don’t throw up but I do get pretty nauseous sometimes…usually I when I don’t eat.  A few weeks ago all I could eat was sour/tart food.  Lots of oranges, ponzu sauce and sushi rice…that kind of thing…i wanted to drink vinegar.  Now, I just have a hard time thinking about what I want to eat.  I also ate a lot of rice cakes early on too.

I’ve been lucky because as a first time mom I’ve been able to get great answers from my doctor who just gave birth to her third child in December, my sister (who has an 11 month old and 2 year old), and all the great info from here and some of the blogs I follow that I will list below.

1) When did you buy a larger bra & when did your breasts grow?  I’m popping out of my current one, but have been pretty lazy about getting any new ones because I don’t want to have to turn around needing yet another larger size.

2) When did you start to grow out of your clothes?  I would get a few pieces as soon as you can so you are prepared because it seriously feels like you stop comfortably fitting into your old clothes overnight.  I was probably around the 4 month mark when I HAD to start wearing maternity jeans and I was able to get away with my regular shirts for just a bit longer than that.

3) Can you recommend some good books about being pregnant? I’ve really enjoyed reading the Girlfriend’s Guide to Pregnancy.

4) What are your favorite pregnancy websites/blogs?

Tiramisu: http://ohapostrophe.blogspot.com/

Nachos: http://rabitstew.wordpress.com/

Dumpling: http://omgmom.blogspot.com/

Shortcake: http://www.ourlittlehaus.com/

5) What were/are your favorite foods to eat during your first trimester? I ate a lot of crackers and breads and for the most part wouldn’t get hungry for much else because it felt like a chore to put it down and keep it down.

Check out Justmommies.com

They have boards where moms that are due during the same month can get to know each other and help each other out. Then that board becomes a “playroom” after the babies are born. I am still on the board with the same moms that I went through my pregnancy with.
