I thought this would be a good place to ask a baby shower ettiquette question. I was invited to a baby shower of a coworker friend of mine this past weekend and I couldn’t make it. The date came up fast and I have yet to send a gift. Obviously I need to/want to get her a gift. I just checked her registry (only once place) and all that is left is diapers, a jar of cream, and some onesies. Should I:
1. Buy this stuff to help her finish off her registry
2. Buy her a cute non-registry baby gift immediately since i’ve already missed her shower
3. Wait until the baby is born (1 month away) and I know the sex, and then get a cute customized gift then.
I know that for weddings you can send gifts after the event, but I have no idea how this works for baby showers.
Thanks for the help!

If it were me I wouldn’t buy the stuff off the registry. I know every new parents will take all the free diapers they can get but I would want to buy something a little more permanent : ) I would probably just wait until after the baby is born at this point. It’s not much longer and that way you can get something that was very specifically chosen by you for the child.

I would also suggest Option 3.

It’s likely that she got a lot of clothes that weren’t on the registry, which is how showers tend to go. I’d wait and get something after the birth. Or you can always call and tell her you’re sorry you missed the shower and would still like to get her something for the baby, and ask if there’s anything else that she needs, since the registry is essentially complete.

At my last shower, the guests who didn’t want to buy the leftovers on the registry or order online just got me gift cards from the place. That was really nice and appreciated!

This is tough because Im sure she needs the things that are on the registry but Im sure she has other things she wants too! I say give her a call and just straight up ask her!
