This isn’t about my engagement (we were engaged after 5 years together, engagement lasted another 5 years, getting married just after our 10 year anniversary).
I was thinking today about how my parents were engaged after only knowing each other for 2 weeks!! They had a year-long engagement and have been married for 28 years this April.
Anyone else know anyone who got engaged quickly and then had a long happy marriage? I’m curious 🙂

My grandparents were on a double date, but he was with her friend and she was on a date with one of his friends. My grandpa proposed to her that night. They were married a week later and recently celebrated their 44th anniversary.

roguehnp2005: My parents have been married 36 years and I do not think they were dating long before getting engaged. I would not say it has been a happy marriage though.
I know a lot of people used to get engaged faster, married younger, etc. It was because women did not focus on careers as much and because they were raised that women got married and had babies.
My FI and I have been engaged for over 5 years after less than 6 months of dating, we do not argue anything like my brother and SIL who had their first date the same night we did (Dec), moved in together/ got engaged in Feb and married in May. I also would be very surprised if they make it to the 10 year mark. They got married 2 weeks after my FI and I got engaged.
Just like I say about couples who choose to marry young, I think it is about having the right person to begin with and the maturity level of each person involved. Even after 3 kids my brother and SIL are not mature enough to be married, much less parents.

We got engaged after knowing one another 2 months and got married a week afterwards! We just celebrated our 1 year anniversary. I know that’s not very long but I know we will live happily ever after for the rest of our lives. We’ve had one argument that lasted a whole 30 mins. We have such a strong marriage and always communicate with one another so we didn’t see the point in waiting : )

My great-grandmother got engaged 17 days after meeting my great-grandfather, and they got married three months later. They were together until he died at age 87. They were married for over fifty years. I could never ever do something like that, but it worked out well for them.

A lady I love like a grandmother got engaged to her husband night she met him. The kicker? She was engaged to someone else at the time! They were hapiiy married 50+ years until he passed away.
I started dating my FI about a month after ending an engagement and got engaged to him after 6ish months. This wonderful woman has been SO supportive, she always tells me, “No judgment here, I outdid you!”
