I love MAC. Their eyeshadows and pigments are amazing. Plus, my fav shade of lipstick is also MAC.
have you tried "hi definition" makeup. I love it! Was a sworn Mac user but am now a convert!
Wow, I tried the laura mercier foundation and thought it gave too much coverage! I am using the oil free tinted moisterizer- it is one step up in coverage from the regular tinted moisterier that I normally wear.
I <3 Mac! I use their concealer/foundation as well. The only thing I wasn't impressed with was their mascara--I found it very clumpy.
I'm usually a Laura Mercier girl too, but I'm trying to weigh all my options since I'm DIYing my make-up too. Thanks for the MAC suggestion!
Actually, I'm going to do a complete 180. The MAC foundation was great Friday night. I was really excited about it. Then, come Saturday morning, I was not so excited. Even though I had washed my makeup off the same way I always do, my skin had completely broken out. It was/is not good, particularly as it was my bachelorette party weekend and our wedding is coming up in 2.5 weeks. Because I figured I didn't have much to lose, I tried doing the MAC foundation myself again on Saturday, and it did a really poor job of covering up the breakout. I ended up washing it all off, and starting over with Laura Mercier as usual. My skin is slowly improving - I actually went out and bought a Clarisonic and so far I think it's working. I'll be going back to Laura Mercier for the wedding. I don't want to feel like I'm breaking out halfway through the day, and if I can't practice with it, then I don't feel comfortable using it. Laura Mercier doesn't provide the fullest coverage, but it's safe in my case.
So, my suggestion -- the MAC makeup looked great after leaving Nordstroms and that night. But, it's very different than something like Laura Mercier. If you have good skin, then maybe it would work well for you. If you have sensitive/volatile skin like me, though, I would try it out waaay before your wedding to see how your skin reacts after wearing it for a full day.

I am a HUGE Laura Mercier fan. I've been using her makeup since age 16. I was planning on using Laura Mercier makeup for my wedding (I'm DIYing,) and in fact had already gone in, picked everything out, and updated my entire set.
Today I went in to get more foundation, and after hearing my complaints about not enough coverage, the Laura Mercier artist suggested I try the Mac counter instead. So, I did, and boy what a difference. My makeup looks literally twice as good. It's a whole lot smoother, so far (3 hours) has stayed on longer/better, and provides a LOT more coverage. I ended up buying the foundation & mineral powder and am so excited to have makeup that provides more of the finished wedding look/glow on our day.
I'll go back to Laura Mercier once the wedding's over, but for the wedding day, I'm definitely going with Mac foundation. I'm also using their eyeshadows and lipstick.
I hope that some other DIY makeup bride finds that helpful!
