Everyone time I try to use the MTA website it freezes my computer…
Can anyone tell me if you can still buy a 1 day pass for the bus and subway in New York City (manhattan)
Where can I buy one?
I’ve read about vending machines – is there one in EVERY subway station?
I know that retailers sell them as well – I’ll be at Ess-A Bagel (51st and 3rd approx) at 8am on a saturday looking to buy a subway pass. What is my best bet?
If I can’t get a 1 day pass what is my best bet? (only going to be there for 1 day, but would like to use the subway to get around)
Thanks (New York) Bees!

You should be able to buy one in any subway station, though sometimes not at every entrance to the subway station – the entrances that don’t have a vending machine will say “entrance with metrocard only” or something to that effect.
I’ve never heard of buying one from a retailer, but I moved away from NY a couple years ago, so maybe that’s new.

@brisebride: Looks like they don’t have 1 day passes anymore. So your best bet would be to just buy a pay-per-ride card and put as much money as you think you will need for rides on it.
A $10 pay per ride gets you $10.70 on your card and each ride is $2.10. Single ride cards are $2.50.
Almost all subway stations have metro card vending machines.

I don’t know if the 1 day fun pass is still an option, but there are vending machines inside every station. Hmm, 51st and 3rd is right near my work, I know at least the 6 stops on 51st and lex so worst case you can get a pass 1 block over.

@KatNYC2011: What?! Why do they keep changing things? I feel like I am going to move back in a few years and not be able to tell the west side from the east side.
Kids these days! [or other crotchety change-resistant cliche]

So if i buy a $10 card I will be able to ride 5 times?
Sorry I’m a little duh…never been to NYC!

@brisebride: Four times. Each ride is 2.10.
There’s a station at 53rd and Fifth Avenue with E and M trains within walking distance of where you’ll be, just FYI.
