@MissRuthie:  Mine has had the ring since Feb.

I’ve been dying to tell this story, so I can make everyone giggle a bit. My SO is a touch of a miser, and when it comes to spending money, is pretty tightfisted. So we’d been looking for something since around December, although it was pretty casual. I didn’t think he’d want to purchase anything anytime soon, so I’d look, and then move on. He started looking with me, and before I really knew it, we were ring shopping.

One day, we walked into Kay’s Jewlers, and I saw this ring and when I put it on, I was in love. I didn’t want to take it off, regardless of how tight it was. So went home, found out it was on sale, let him know, we went and looked at it again the next day, asked if the internet sale price would be applied at the store as well, and found out it would. He said he wanted to go home, so I sadly left once more.

Went back to his house and put it out of my head. The ring was midrange in the budget he told me he wanted to stay in, so I knew that he was fine with that. So there we are, sitting around his house, and all of a sudden he says, “Come on, let’s go buy it.”

I was shocked. My SO doesn’t make snap decisions like that. I asked if he was sure, and he said that if we didn’t go together, he’d go on Tuesday and do it then. Well, I wasn’t going to let this slip by, so on the shoes went and we went back to the mall.

It took 4 trips in and out of the store, with me reassuring him that if he wasn’t ready or didn’t want to buy the ring it was fine, until he actually bought it. I felt bad for the poor sales lady.

My pretty now sits in his safe. He doesn’t let me look or touch at all, and I’m just waiting for him to do well in class to propose. Because… he has this “PLAN” and I have to wait. *sigh*

That’s my story.

@MissRuthie:  In my case, I was there when he made the first payment, and I knew how much the payment was and that he was going ot make that same payment amount every month, and how much the ring was… so I extrapolated when he would receive it 🙂

@MissRuthie:  I was with him when he purchased the ring. He also wanted me to look at it when it came in in case it needed to be resized, etc. (It did need resized and I wanted to raise the diamond up a bit).  It was nice because when he proposed, I didn’t have to send it back for any work to be done!

I also knew when it was delievered because we had it sent to my parents house and went to visit them specifically to pick the ring up.

@MissRuthie:  I don’t live with him, so that makes it easier, but harder at the same time. I don’t agree with his plan and it took me a long while to drag a decent timeline out of him. Still, I know that a proposal will be coming by Feb, and I’m strangely calm about it right now.

I accidentally saw a receipt for the setting. But I have been sitting on that knowledge since the beginning of May, so I obviously will still be surprised with the proposal!

My ring I was SO’s great grandmother’s… So he surprised me by telling me it was coming in the mail from his mom. He wanted me to decided what needed to be done with it and get it sized, since its heirloom he didn’t want to do it himself and end up making it look awful Or get anything wrong.

As for when I get it or when it will be done- he’s very determined to leave me out of the loop. 🙂 however, it should be anytime now…

@MissRuthie:  not at all!! My DH proposed 36 hours after he got the ring and he still managed to completely surprise me with the proposal – I had NO idea it was coming!

I loved how open the process was for us.

I just had a feeling he purchased the ring while I was visiting family in California. I can’t explain why i knew, I just did. It was like I could feel it near me in the house when I got home from my trip and sure enough, I stumbled upon it in the kitchen. It was killing me I knew it was there but the proposal was a complete surprise nonetheless.

I knew my husband had been ring shopping for awhile when he started getting very protective of his computer. Normally we use each other’s computers all the time, but now he would make sure to close his browser before he let me use his, and he never let me see his email window. So one day I snuck a glimpse over his shoulder of his email inbox, and I saw a subject line that was an order confirmation from a jeweler.

I didn’t know how or when he was going to get the ring, but a few weeks later it occurred to me that he should have received it already. Every time my husband buys presents for my birthday or Christmas, he ‘hides’ them in the same place, the closet in our spare room. So I looked in there and sure enough, there was a cardboard box addressed to him from the jeweler! It took everything I had not to touch it. He proposed 2 weeks after that.

I grew up not wanting to know…

But with our circumstances, it was hard for him to do anything without me knowing. I knew he was going to get the diamond from a pawn shop and then have it put in a setting…and I was actually with him when he bought it. Like, he literally told me to pull into the parking lot of the shop, and he left me sitting in the car for 20 minutes! The baby was asleep in the backseat at the time, so it wasn’t a big deal, just funny! I didn’t know when he took it to the jeweler, though, bc he got his mom to take him. I think he only managed to pull that part off b/c I was distracted with a newborn…if he did anything like that now, I’d know about it, b/c I watch our account like a hawk these days!
