If you’ve seen my other post, I am still on the fence about eloping/not eloping this October, versus wedding next October.
Question for all those who did elope with only a few months or less notice, where did you get your dress? I want something that definitely is recognizable as a wedding dress (not a cocktail dress or nice dress), but can you just buy one off the rack? I always thought they were something that got ordered and took a long time to recieve? I guess it just depends on your size and where you go, right?
Was anyone able to walk out of the store with their dress?

@stephee: So I was the queen of dresses. I ended up with FIVE! They were all affordable and I did resell all but one.
The one I wore on my wedding day was a Casablanca from a real bridal shop. It was a sample gown, half off, fit perfectly, and I took it home that day. The others were all online purchases (all new with tags, but HUGE deals, no returns).
So you could try a bridal shop – see what they have in stock.
If you have a David’s Bridal you could take one home the same day.
I you have a Dillards or Macy’s or Nordstroms, they have gowns (more like evening gowns).
If you go the online route, I highly recommend using a store that has returns.
For online, I’d suggest

I bought my dress directly off the peg, and I bloody love it! I’d been hunting high and wide for the ‘right’ elopement dress and finally found one at Coast only a few weeks ago. I dont know how useful this is is to you as this is a uk store, but their dresses are so much more beautiful in real life!
