My little man turned 1 in the begining of November. At his 1 year check up his Doctor told me to just quit formula cold turkey ( i dried up at 5months 🙁 )…
He still wakes anywhere from 4am-6am. Hungry. I always fed him and put him back to bed… Now I don’t know what to do for him when he wakes up that early. The Doctor told me to just roll over and let him go back to sleep. Problem is, he will stand in his crib and scream until I come in to feed him.
What about his bottle before bed? Do I just give him a snack inbetween dinner and bedtime? I don’t want my poor guy to go to bed hungry!!
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

You can give 1 year olds regular cow’s milk.

I give him whole milk with meals. Do i just give him whole milk at 4am and before bed?

I’d just give him a bottle of cow’s milk when he wakes up hungry early in the morning!
Or feed him breakfast earlier, and give him milk with breakfast.

Give him milk or formula if you prefer (the toddler formula) or a mix of the two. At 4am, try giving him just plain tap water (in a bottle or in a sippy cup). After a while of realizing he is not going to get milk or formula (probably a week or two), he might try skipping it. Also, wait 5 or 10 minutes before going up there. He’s probably NOT hungry and probably just wants to suck for comfort.

Why would he not want you to give him formula at 1 year old? I mean the only reason I could think to stop formula is 1- they are really old and it’s weird. Like a 6 year old on infant formula or 2- they are allergic to cow milk. But you give him cow milk. So i’m pretty confused.

Did you ask your Dr. about snacking before bedtime? Depending on what time and how long your little boy sleeps it might not be a bad idea. Something healthy with some fiber should sit in his belly for a while (like part of a smashed banana or mushy brown rice?) If he is on early dinner around 5pm and sleeps at 8:30pm maybe breakfast is just a little long of a wait for him. I know I get grumpy if I got 12 hours without food, can’t imagine a little guy would tolerate it much better.
