I have a princess and I love it but it is a perfect D diamond. We went to the top in regards to quality, especially color because you could really notice the color in the corners. I'm thinking that with the radiant it might hide colors and flaws better. So if you compare both equally then I'm sure they will sparkle the same but you might have a little more give with the radiant.
My only issue with princess cuts are the very pointy corners. And since you said you like squares I'm gonna share my asscher, since it is a square, but is very different from princess/radiant cuts. And obviously all of this is personally opinion and ultimately you should pick whatever makes you happy. And it is very difficult to really see the difference in pictures IMHO, so I would look in person or at online videos.

Hope this helps!
I love my princess cut 3 stone e-ring! It sparkles so much and is beautiful and timeless IMO. Here is a picture of mine:

i'm not a fan of the sharp corners on princess cuts, so i personally prefer radiants of the two. for square cuts though, my favorites are asschers. what can i say, i'm a sucker for a nice clear stone in a step cut!
I have a princess cut and I love it. I like the square look, very modern and clean yet it is still classic (I have a solitaire). But I also have a D color and you really are able to tell if the stone is yellowish around the corners. So unless you are getting anywhere from a D to a G, I would go with radiant. The princess cut sparkles like crazy and although mine is a modest size at .50 carat I get so many compliments on the sparkle and shine.

thank you for all the quick responses! we're staying at an G-I range for cost reasons, 0.4-0.5ct. so maybe I should look into radiants more.
@Soon2BMrs.T what size is your center stone? it's lovely!
@JM1217 beautiful! that's the size I'd like, but we're not going that high in color quality
@asscherlover I love your ring! and thank you for the videos, very helpful!
I prefer radiants. I especially love rectangular ones over square ones.
How about THIS!!!:

Princess of HEARTS <3 <3 SO gorgeous and SO MUCH SPARKLE!!
BTW- you really should try both of these shape stones on in the store, you may find yourself more attracted to one shape on your actual finger vs just looking at pictures online. Princess Cuts are still #2 in popularity (second to the round brilliant).
I have a ring with a big princess stone in the center, two radient cuts on the side and then pave round diamonds all over the band. Sorry pic is so blurry.
@smiles731: wow, that's an amazing stone! I usually don't love princess cuts, but I think I just fell in love.
@abirdword: I'm with you on that! I am not much of a princess-cut girl either but that diamond shows how far along they've come in cutting diamonds...it's amazing !
I think I'd rather have a radiant. Not a fan of the princess's sharp corners and "linear life", meaning that the sparkle comes from many light and dark faucets, where as the radiant reflects light from all different angles, which to me makes it appear more eye catching and more interesting to look at.
Plus not many people I know have one, but alot of ppl have a princess, or a round for that matter (myself included).
Everyone has their preferences...I definitely prefer a radiant. If I didn't find my dream ring in a round brilliant, I would've def gotten a radiant solitaire. I also think asschers are to DIE for :D Not a huge princess fan...but that is just one woman's opinion lol
Biased because I have a radiant. Had no idea such a thing even existed until I was proposed to. But I love it. :)
My vote is for a Radiant.. a Princess of Hearts to be exact! But.. I'm awfully biased considering that's what I just got. : )
There is definitely a difference in the way both cuts sparkle, and my guess is that you'll prefer one "pattern" of light reflection over the other. Visit a jeweler to see both cuts side by side and your choice will be easy!
Here's a link to a video that gives you an idea, although you can really see the differences much better in person.
Have fun shopping & keep us posted!!

radiant is just gorgeous!
@fmls I love the clarity of the photo, I love how the diamond looks! beautiful!
I just looked at some raidants, but they seem to be more expensive... darn tight budgets! and most of them are rectangular
I personally prefer radiant cuts. The sharp corners on the princess cut don't do it for me, plus they are more likely to chip. Also, it seems EVERYBODY has princess cuts these days.
Here's my radiant!
Radiant cut all the way! I agree with the above posters who mentioned that sharp, square cuts make fingers look stubby. Not at all a fan, but to each his/her own! It's not about the ring anyways, right? ;-)
Radiant cuts seem to have that WOW-factor over princess cuts.
i have a princess but i also love radiant...def a square type ring. the edges on my princess doesnt bother me, and it rarely gets caught.. i would suggest trying both on maybe next to one another and see which one catches your eye the most
I like radiant cuts, and you don't see them as often as princess. I have an emerald cut, I find that people either love it or hate it, I of course love it :)
I fell in love love love with princess cuts, they looked great on me and weren't as common as rounds. And then suddenly it looked like everywhere I turned there was a princess cut, so I switched it to a rectangle radiant, with more of elongated princess faceting than the common crushed ice look. Can't wait to get it on my finger!!
I don't have a photo of it, but I have a princess CZ as a "stunt" ring and I stare at it all the time. the way it's cut makes this really interesting X in the middle. I think it's beautiful. it sparkles enough for me, and it's only a cheap CZ. I can't imagine how breathtaking a diamond must be in this cut.
maybe one day they'll make princess cut moissanites. when they do, I am going to pounce all over it!
@asscherlover: My only issue with princess cuts are the very pointy corners.
I agreee, I hate the pointy corners too. but I've seen different square cuts where they cut the corners off -- here is a photo of an Asha cut this way: http://betterthandiamond.com/products/Asha-Princess-Cut%252dCorner.html
I absolutely love the way it looks.
oh whoops-- I got it wrong. for some reason, I confused "radiant" with "square brilliant". I just looked up radiant--- I absolutely love it! to be honest, I can't tell much difference between that and a princess cut. except maybe the corners.
does anybody have a radiant moissanite? is there some reason they only offer them in rectangle form (not square)?
i just ordered the amora radiant moissy halo custom with diamond sides, will post pics when i get.

Out of the two, I prefer the radiant. I have a princess solitaire Asha for fun and while it's pretty, it doesn't wow me. I have tried on some very pretty radiants and am drawn to the sparkle more. Plus I think they elongate your finger more than the symetrical shapes.
I have a radiant, but it is cut a little more square, so it almost looks like a princess. I like it because it is NOT a princess, and a lot of people have them these days. Both are pretty, though, so just look at different examples in the stores and see what you like more!!
I didn't really know anything about radiant cuts, FI picked mine out all by himself without my input, and I love it! I love how different it is. Plus it doesn't get caught on everything, I guess because it's rectangular.

sorry for the wonky angle!
I think it depends on your setting. I choose princess as i prefer squarish stones and i liked how it looked with my bloom setting as it softens the edges of the stone. I agree radiants are beautiful too though and unique. I realize there are alot of princess cut haters on here (which is a bit extreme) and you should do what makes you happy.
My favorite is cushion cut, it's the best of both worlds (square and round). But out of the two I prefer radiants. They're aesthetically more appealing to me.

I thought for sure I wanted a princess, but I didn't know that radiants even existed! I know I definitely don't want a round diamond, I love the look of squares!
So the question is, what is your experience with the two in terms of sparkle and appearance?
pictures would be wonderful!
