Hahaha....when you said rainbow bridesmaids, I thought of this:

So only your MOH will be in a different color or everyone? I had an August wedding where the MOH was dressed differently, and it looked fabulous.
Do you have any pictures?
Thanks! I posted the title because it made me smile:)
The 6 BMs will be wearing the second, third and fourth dresses in this picture:
And my sister will probably wear something like this:

in Latte with a pink sask and a broach.
I think you'll be better off having her wear a different color. You'll probably have trouble finding a perfectly color-matched dress. If her dress color is just slightly different it will looked mismatched; if it's a totally different complimentary color it will look intentional.
I think it would look great if you chose a complimentary color for your MOH and your sister. I, too, am not a fan of the cookie cutter BMs, so don't think it's necessary to find expresso dresses to match the J. Crew dresses.
I like your idea of a champagne or lighter color in the brown family. Have you considered a complimentary color that's entirely different? Brown is such a hot color combo with different colors right now.
I attended a wedding recently where all the BMs were in chocolate dresses, and the MOH was in a powder-blue dress, then another one where BMs were in chocolate, and MOH was in a celedon green color. Both tied it all together with bouquets that featured the MOH dress color in it and they were gorgeous.
Since your sister will have a pink sash, how about choosing a pink dress for the MOH? Pink, Latte and Expresso would look fantastic!
SoCalBeachGirl,
My sister/MOH are the same person so there would only be one dress in a different color
I love your idea of a totally different color; I think rosychicklet said the same. My colors are pink/brown (overdone but loved), but I will have some bright green kermit mums in the flowers, so green is a color too. I think I will give her the choice of a lighter brown, a blush pink or a clover green and let her pick the color that looks best on her. I also thought I could tie it into the other dresses/colors with a sash.
Thanks for the great feedback!!

I let my girls vote on their dresses and they chose J. Crew. This is great for me, as I LOVE J. Crew. We will order 3 different dresses in espresso silk taffeta, and 2 of my BMs will choose each dress (which they have agreed to). Synopsis-6 bridesmaids, 2 in each J. Crew style. My sister is a size 20W and will not fit into a J. Crew dress. She is my MOH and is excited about wearing something totally different from the BMs. I also want her to stand out a bit because she is my MOH. Here is my question. Would it be appropriate for her to choose another color of dress (I was thinking a champagne, cafe or other light brown) in the same fabric and length, or would it look better for her to try and stick to the same color? Have you seen this done(The MOH in a totally different color)? If so, how did it look? I am not into the cookie cutter bridesmaid, so I am fine with it looking different, I just don't want it to look weird.
