I need some opinions!
My FI and I are having separate cakes – I am having an assortment of pies and he is having a rice krispie cake, well he wants to have it covered with Betty Crocker Rainbow Chip Icing.
The baker has told us it won’t work, I have told him it won’t look right, but what do you think?? We are having a semi-formal wedding and I just don’t think it will work….
Please help me!

Well, it is HIS cake, screw what people think and have what he wants! I personally find it delcious. You might see if the baker can make something similar, so you aren’t asking a pro baker to use icing from a can, but in the end, I think that you got you want in the pies, so you should let him get what he wants for his.

FI wants a dairy queen ice cream cake which totally doesn’t fit in the “vibe” I want….but he wants ice cream cake. So we’re having ice cream cake. Let him have the rainbow chip cake.

I think it would be really bumpy. Maybe white icing with rainbow chips on top?

That sounds delicious. Let him have it 🙂

In case you want, I found a recipe to MAKE rainbow chip style frosting… And now I really want to try it.

You guys are totally right, if that’s what he wants that’s what he should have!
If people don’t get it, then just like you said chasesgirl screw it, that’s what he is most happy with…he eats the stuff out of the can for goodness sakes!!
Thanks for the opinions, keep them coming, he’ll be thrilled people are on board with his idea!

And thanks for the recipe too, maybe the baker will see this as a more feasible idea, she said that it won’t “set” like buttercream would….

Ask her to put rainbow sprinkles on buttercream instead. That shit will melt into a big puddle of rainbow-chipped goo. Ask me how I know? Cupcakes lose all their rainbow-chip frosting if you leave them for just one night in a covered container. Imagine, if you will, 3 dozen cupcakes, each one sitting in a puddle of rainbow chips.
She can make it look like rainbow chip icing, I promise, but don’t make her put the crap from a can on it.
