We live in a large neighborhood where a lot of people own dogs, which is great, but it is alarming how many people do not pick up after them! I mean, I get people accidentally forget to take bags or their dispenser runs out every once in a while, but the amount I see in our green spaces leads me to believe that people leave it on purpose. Do people not know that it’s common courtesy? We get weekly HOA bulletin emails and there’s always a reminder on there for residents to clean up after their pets, plus there are signs up so it’s not like anyone could claim that they weren’t aware.
Thankfully my Corgi just does a quick sniff and walks around them, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve stepped in a pile when it’s dark out.
It’s just so frustrating and gross, especially to those who are very dilligent about it!

vip0802: In the 7 years I’ve owned my dog, he’s never pooped outside of his own yard. Then suddenly we moved, and he’s become a poop machine. Our first walk after the move I felt like such an asshole when he pooped in someone’s yard and I was entirely unprepared because he’s never done that before.
That said, I get upset when people purposefully leave poop, especially in parks because then parks start limiting allowing dogs. I watched a guy once let his dog go, then he just started walking away. I went “hey! Clean up after your dog!” And he walked back and picked it up. So clearly he had the materials to, he just decided he wasn’t going to

vip0802: Even if I have forgotten my bags I find a large leaf to at least move it into the bushes if it isn’t within range of returning. I think it is beyond inconsiderate to leave poop just in the middle of the walk way or in other public walking areas.
We have had this same issue at our HOA location for years. Someone actually went around accusing various people including ourselves in a ridiculous witch hunt if you will. Our dogs go potty in their yard, that is why we have a yard! If they go potty during walks we have those delightful baggies to pick up the mess. We do not let our dogs roam the property to do their business unattended. And yet there are two residents I think of immediatley that do. I come home to find their dogs wandering about and yes pooping while the owner isn’t any where to be seen. Drives me nuts!

Picking up doggy poop is my least favourite part of dog ownership but it’s necessary. It is beyond rude to leave it on someone’s property and almost as annoying to leave it in public areas. It’s always nice to have kids playing in parks with poop (and garbage – but that’s another story) everywhere. I can somewhat understand little kids not doing it (many parents in my area have their kids walk the dog) but grown ass adults? Give me a break.
