@mnp:  why would a company allow you to make the same mistake for 5 years without correcting you earlier than now?   i find that odd.

@mypinkshoes:  I was thinking the same thing.  Why wouldn’t anyone tell you that you were making a mistake?  Seems odd.

@mnp:  Say whaaaaattttt?  That sounds ridiculous!

At least at my former place of employment when you got written up (also for BS) you could refuse to sign the slip as your way of saying you didn’t agree with it.

My cheer up attempt:

Hey, it’s ok…so it’s written down in a file somewhere….Oooooooo!  When it’s all said and done, that’ll end up with your permanent record from school ( gasp )!

 People are so much more than a performance review, or a file or a complaint….that’s why at our office we take a more hands on approach….mistakes are brought to the attention of the entire staff as the offending employee stands in the circle of shame and we fire staples at them…all inter-employee disagreements are settled with full contact filing or a fluorescent light joust….

It may not be professional, but who cares?

@Nona99:  Wow… I hope you are kidding!  That’s a worker’s comp issue waiting to happen!

@Nona99:  LOL

OP-You dont need to sign that if you dont agree (although you probably already did). You also can write up a letter/memo explaining why you disagree with the warning and ask them to add it to your file.

@mnp:  well have they been telling you about mistakes that you haven’t been fixing?  I’d speak with your supervisor asap for a performance review to see what’s going on, what you’ve been doing wrong and what you can do to improve.

At the end of the day, I wouldn’t worry about it – no one sees performance reviews outside the company! It wouldn’t be held against you if you were to seek a new job – i’ve never listed a current employer as a reference while job hunting or interviewing.

@mnp:  well, I’m sorry this happened, that has to feel so impersonal and incriminating….I’m lucky to work With family, hence our totally bizarre approach to corporate congress….and childish antics, but we haven’t lost an employee in 17 years….people are going to screw up, that is a fact, help them overcome it, have a good laugh and then go tackle your brother in the filing room next to the M drawer….it works.
