oh man, I love to whine about stuff that annoys me,or when things get hard, but that doesnt mean I just stop doing them!In the UK we have vast amounts of people cheating the system, each other and everything else you can think of. I was unemplyed for nealry 2 years, but I didnt dare go on benefits, because I didnt want anyone to think that I was just taking away and not putting anything back in. So even though I could have really used any help I could get,I was too proud and stuck with it until I did find work again. It was hard but I didnt ever think about giving up

Also,a close relative of mine makes aorund £10,00 a year more than me and DH, and they still cant make ends meet. We are on one wage, paying private rent whilst they have a council house (very cheap rent) and help paying their bills and they still struggle! It makes me scratch my head!

@MrsFuzzyFace:  I totally agree…. i know so many people who are like “whoa is me”…. over petty, miniscule stuff, their facebook status is always like “got yelled at by my boss today, can my life get any worse”  … YES, yes it can…. people have become wimps from what i have seen, they need to suck it up, there’s always someone out there who actually does have it worse then them.

a lot of people thought that the most important thing when raising their children was that they be “happy”, but you know what? Life isn’t always fun and happy…no one thinks they deserve any sort of unhappiness anymore. It’s pretty pathetic IMO

@eloping:  Yes, i believe the government over meds people HUGE.  how else are they going to make money, it’s the perfect opportunity for them.   I don’t take meds, none, not even tylenol, and i suffer from Panic Disorder, which i now know how to control without meds, i taught myself to deal with it and suffer through it and now i can deal with it daily and not have to rely on meds.   Never once did i think about quitting my job, or anything else drastic just because i was “sick” …. i worked 2 jobs while going through 3 years of severe panic attacks(about 10 a day) …. but i still worked cuz i HAD to.

@MrsFuzzyFace:  I’m with you…. I cannot STAND justification & excuses. Primarily b/c yea everyone goes through things that aren’t fair & are hard BUT it’s what’s done in & with that that we become great people & have great lives… as long as you justify your lack of you cannot change!

Working with my mom’s ministry we see ALOT of this when girls first come in & we have to nip it in the bud immediately and continually until they FINALLY GET IT!

“Woe’s Me..” just doesn’t cut it!

I have been feeling the exact same lately! I never thought I had any special work ethic or drive…apparently having any sort of work ethic nowadays is considered “outstanding”.

Along the same vein, another thing that drives me crazy, and usually the people who wine about their responsibilities do this too: They feel they should be praised for doing the bare minimum, or doing what they are supposed to do! Like  they should get a gold star for doing their job/showing up for class…drives me crazy!

@mcklough:  yes!  both my husband and my parents are migrates so they had to struggle hard when we first got here, often 2 jobs at once, usually manual or factory labor and it was tough.  i guess this explains why no matter how difficult or frustating things seem at times we (siblings and cousins) still struggle though and deal with it because we have seen worse

whereas a friend of ours was married less than 12mths because she felt like marriage would have been different – romance and partying 24/7, idiot

@eloping:  its over medicated here too, although we have the NHS, I could easily go to the doctors tomorrow, and tell him I have severe anxiety/depression or something else, get given medication for it,and then be signed off work for years. My ex did this, whenever they wanted to update his benefits,or review them,he just had to have a quick pop down to the doctors, say how he couldnt cope, and that was that. Benefits incresed, tablets thrown to the back of a drawer, and classed as “disabled/unable to work”

@RockStar33:  Lol the government doesn’t force pills down people’s throats.. There’s other options, for anyone who wants them, but often people just want to take a magic pill and not put in any work to go through the cognitive restructuring that comes with therapy. I work with anxiety patients and some won’t even come to our clinic because we don’t offer meds. So don’t absolve the pill users of blame (plus, some people actually benefit from them).

OP, I agree and disagree. While I ultimately think yes, people have to pull themselves up and make it work, sometimes those contexts are relevant (ie depression – the person may be obstructed from doing reasonable things). However, I have just as little patience as you do for people who don’t make ANY steps to better their lives… Whining and quitting is inexcusable.
