I attended a wedding at very nice hotel that was overbooked. What happened was the groom's mom gave extra invites to all her friends without telling the couple and the venue! It was one of the most horrible receptions I even attended because we waited sooooooo long to eat. I think it was close to a 3-hour wait AFTER the time it was supposed to be. Keep in mind that the cememony was that same day and many people didn't eat since the morning because they were expecting the reception to start when it was supposed to.
People actually left to get a burger!!! And everyone was dressed up too! Someone in the crowd joked about ordering a pizza and I think someone did! It was that crazy!
They ended up having to add seats OUTSIDE the banquet hall -- as in the hallway outside the door to fit people in. People were eating out in the hall with the big double doors open into the reception.
It was a seated menu, so the majority of the food was overdone and I honestly can not imagine how crazy the kitchens must have been.
It was not a pleasant experience.
Wowza! That sounds terrible, what a mess! It's stories like this that make me glad I'm not dealing with such large numbers (and not going over by very many people!!)

My last post won't let me edit it to reflect what type of experiences I was looking to hear about, so here goes again (hopefully worded in a better way):
For people who actually had too many people show up at your wedding, or RSVP yes, when your venue didn't hold that many people, what did you do? I'm not asking for advice on what I should do with my guest list, but looking for actual stories from people that this happened to, or if you attended a wedding where this happened. Thanks!
