I am finding myself avidly skipping through people's posts to write my own tonight.  Am I the only one?  On average, do you read every post or skip a lot of them to get to your own?  If you skip, do you feel kind of guilty about this?

I don't know how to vote as it really depends on the post!

Sometimes I read EVERY post and sometimes I just add my comment and move on!

I'd say it depends!  If the thread is really long (as in, many many pages), I tend to skim because it's hard to read them all, but if it's short (or something I'm really interested in) I read all the comments before posting!  I do feel guilty if I skip though, because I always worry I'm going to repeat something someone else has said!  I tend to refresh the page right before I comment to check for that too :)

If its long, I usually read the first few, and maybe the last ones, and then post.

Or I just post after reading the original post.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who occasionally skims. It really depends on the mood I'm in and how serious the topic is!

It depends on how long the thread is for me, too.  If it has pages and pages of comments I won't read all of them, but I'll skim for more updates from the original poster and some of the other comments to make sure I'm not repeating what someone else has said.

It depends on the length and my interest in the particular topic.  I'm actually more of a reader than a poster.  But, I always look for further comments by the original poster before I add my two cents.  It drives me nuts when people don't do that and then comment on something that is irrevelant or wrong based on the original poster's follow-up.

I read the majority of the comments unless its a really, really lengthy thread :)

I read through most of them, because often times the original poster will clarify something that would change the advice I give them. I read a lot of threads where it is obvious that a lot of posters didn't read the OPs clarifications or edits.

Definitely depends on the thread topic and my mood. I usually try to read as many posts as I can regarding a certain topic, though.

I'm a skimmer. I (almost) always look for the OP, if nothing else, and if she's posted follow ups, I get curious, read back, and end up reading everything out of order. Interactions between other posters are more interesting to me than just random replies. I do skim to see if my point has already been made though, most of the time.

I usually do read all the posts, I'm a quick reader and I like to have an idea of the conversation before I reply.

On threads like 'what do you and your other half do', I'll admit to skimming!

ugh! I HATE when I ask a question & explain it farther down b/c it was slightly unclear- everyone reads the first post & just responds to that & never checks again! It drives me crazy!! Read the whole thing! Or at least skim it! I always read all of the original poster's posts, and skim through the rest of it depending on how many posts there are.

Yeah, I need a choice that says it depends.  Although, if I don't read every post, I try to mention that, as to not step on toes or try to take credit for soemthing someone else said.

P.S.  Didn't read every post.  Hope I didn't say something that's already been posted. :)

Typically I at least skim all the posts, because I don't want to miss anything. Remember that Oprah thread a while back? Everyone was bashing on her for days because she apparently said that you didn't need to tip waiters as much because of the economy, and it turned out that was just an internet rumor. But people kept on complaining about her because they didn't read.

I try to read all the comments because sometimes the original question gets answered or the tread shifts into different topics.

It depends how many posts there are and how long the posts are. I mostly skim though.

It depends on the topic and the number of posts. I usually read the first page, but after that I skip around just to get a feel for what people are saying before I post my own. Something like this that asks solely for an opinion I am more likely to skip to say my own thing.

I like to read all the posts on a thread. Though I have to say that while it is annoying when people don't read a thread and then miss vital information, I can't hold a grudge when multiple people say the same thing--I kinda like to see how many people advocate a certain answer or put a slightly different spin on basically the same thing. It's interesting. ^_^

I read more than I post, though, and I agree that I don't read all the posts the relationship series threads. I skim. We all have a lot to say on those. ^_^

I usually skim unless it's something I can really relate to or a "hot" topic-then I'll read all of the posts.

I'll often read through because the OP will often add some additional useful information or someone will bring up an interesting point. It really adds to the feeling of "conversation," you know?

I don't read every word of every post, but I do try to make sure that what I'm posting is relevant.  It's a huge pet peeve of mine that people respond only to the original post without looking to see if more info has been added later.

i think it depends on the thread, sometimes it is definitely important to follow what is happening through all the comments, but sometimes it really doesnt matter as much.  (full disclosure: i only skimmed the posts here ;-)

i try to read most comments before i add my own if it's a post requesting advice (to see if i can add something new, agree or disagree w/what's already been said). but if it's a post your own thing, free-for-all kinda post, then i don't take as much time reading through all the previous posts before jumping in.
