I agree her response was a bit weird and its not her wedding so she doesn't get to pick and choose how she wants things. BUT maybe she was trying to avoid one of the slightly sexy sounding readings - I personally would turn beet red if I had to read "My lover is a stag" in front of a church full of people. (That's one of the readings I want, but its either my cousin of FI's aunt reading it - let's hope they can handle it!)
@KitKatNYC: Hah! I know what you mean about that one! I wanted that one, too but it was vetoed = sad day.
I feel like she could have handled it better or maybe I put her on the spot? I think I'm just going to ask her if she wouldn't mind to read the one we had picked out for her. Fingers crossed! Thanks :)
I think you should email her back and just tell her that your brother is already reading the one she picked-- tell her you had her in mind for whichever one and if she is unwilling to do that one then you should just find someone else?
@catib123: check out this website, it is gold for catholic wedding readings since they are specified by the Rite of Marriage

I need help, hive.
We asked someone to do a reading at our mass and she seemed really off-struck by it. It surprised us she reacted that way because out of the rest of her family - she goes to church the most often and is by far the most religious.
She told me she'd think about it.
She emails me yesterday and asks if we've picked our readings and she'll make her decision based on which readings we chose. I emailed her which readings we chose, not really thinking because I sent it from work and we've been crazy-busy. She responded with Yes, I'll do xxxx reading.
(also, I'd like to say - I've done readings in a few of my cousins' weddings and I didn't get to pick my reading, nor did I really base my decision on if I was doing a reading by what the actual reading was)
I had my brother in mind to do the reading she picked, but it really rubbed me wrong because I was thinking that it is an honor to be asked to do something like this in a ceremony (at least that's how I felt the past times I've done it).
Have I totally lost it?
