@All In:  WOW great sale! I looked at Target Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses as well but never actually pulled the trigger and bought one…

They do have free shipping over $50 and easy in-store returns so maybe its worth it to purchase one in one of your BM’s sizes to see if it is what you want?

I’ve heard the fabric is not amazing but for $55 you might as well!

I don’t know if you’re set on navy but I got my Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses for $56 (reg $245) from http://www.anntaylor.com (final sale section) and they’re a lovely design in silk organza fabric so I know I won’t be dissappointed!

Maybe check them out and see if you find a style you like as well?

Here’s my post on them incase you want the discount codes & etc.

Best of luck!

I think these are great! I actually got my Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses at the Juniors section at MAcys for $35, they weren;t even bridesmaids dresses at all. They were so inexpensive that I just bought them for the girls myself. In the end, the fabric wasn;t super fancy, but the dresses looked really nice and it was totally something they could wear again.

Is it not standard practice for the bride to purchase the bridesmaids dresses anyway?

Sorry to change the subject slightly…………………..

They look great!!!!!

I think I’ve seen a thread where in some countries it’s just expected that the bride purchase, but in the US the bridesmaids buy their own dresses unless the bride decides they are a gift. That may be why there is a tlc show “say yes to the dress: bridesmaids”. If we US brides would pay for the dress, we wouldn’t have such dramatic dress hunting problems.

I hope the target dresses work out. My girls (6of them) live all over the US, so I needed something they could all easily go try on and order at their convenience. I hope they start carrying in store- it will definitely be nice to have more options than Davids bridal.

@aussiebee:  I live in Alabama, and it’s a lot more common for the bride to buy the Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses than not (at least out of the ones I’ve known). I’ve known a few who didn’t, but it’s pretty rare and doesn’t always go over great. I think it varies from one area/social circle to the next though.

@All In:  I think the target dress idea would be great. My BFF used non-BM dresses for her Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses, and we all loved them. She got compliments on them from guests too. My point is, chances are no one will know where they came from or anything like that. If they look good IRL and match your theme/colors, I think they will look great.

@aussiebee:  No, at least where I live it is standard practice for bridesmaids to buy their own dresses.

I am going to check out these dresses just for fun…I already have mine unfortunately!  Well, I love mine so it’s ok, but I just like to look at all the good deals 🙂

@aussiebee:  Hi I am from WA too 🙂

In Australia it is standard for the BMs to buy their own dresses – well at least in my group and from what I hear with the ladies at work. I just made sure I knew their budgets before we brought a dress. One of the girls budgets was a little lower when it came to it so to be fair to her I covered the extra $ for her.

Mum has said that when she got married (in England) it was standard practice for the bride and groom to buy all attire – Bridesmaid or Best Man, Groomsmen and flower girl/ring bearers… And from what I read on here the UK bees seem to say the same 🙂
